Will Smith Mocked At Golden Globes 2023 After Joe Rogan Defends

Will Smith just returned to the headlines, courtesy of the Golden Globes 2023 and Eddie Murphy. But just before Murphy joked about Smith’s infamous Oscars slap, Joe Rogan defended Will. However, Rogan lost the spotlight to the Beverly Hills Cop star’s mimicking Smith at Tuesday night’s Golden Globes.

Find out how Eddie mocked Will. And learn how Rogan defended him. Get all the details below.

Eddie Murphy – Mimics Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock At Golden Globes

The Golden Globes Tuesday night contained highs and lows. And legendary actor Eddie Murphy managed to provide both. Because though Murphy at first began a subdued speech, his closing advice for young actors stole the evening’s spotlight. And after receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award, Eddie brought the celebrities to their feet in a standing ovation with his joke about Will, noted the New York Post.

“I want to let you know that there is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity and peace of mind,” said Murphy. And though he started quietly, he finished with a crescendo. “There’s a blueprint,” he repeated. “And I followed it my whole career. It’s very simple, it’s three things. You just do these three things: Pay your taxes. Mind your business. And keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out of your f**king mouth!”

Murphy quoting some of Smith’s angry words at last year’s Academy Awards didn’t just entertain the audience in the theater. Because social media cheered as well. For instance, one fan raved, “Eddie Murphy would be the only person to make a Will Smith joke that was actually funny.” And another shared, “Eddie stole the show. A legend forever.”

Will Smith – Deserves Forgiveness, Says Joe Rogan

But can Will Smith ever get pop culture to stop recalling his slap? For instance, at the Golden Globes, host Jerrod Carmichael also joked about Smith. And Carmichael mocked, “While we were on commercial, we actually presented Will Smith with the Rock Hudson award for best portrayal of masculinity on television, so please give it up for Will Smith. Please!”

However, Joe Rogan spoke up for Smith just prior to those jokes. And he reflected on whether people should stop joking about and scolding Will for his Oscars meltdown. That Academy Awards scene, during which Smith slapped Chris Rock over his joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith, represents just one incident in Will’s history, noted Rogan via Cinema Blend.

And Rogan insisted that Will “has to be forgiven. Like, he clearly has deep remorse for what he’s done. And he’s also clearly living in a world where he was given nothing but adulation and praise for most of his life.” However, though the podcast host admitted Will did “something just so stupid,” Rogan believes “you just gotta forgive him, you know? And I think the real person who has to forgive him — if he wants to is Chris Rock.”
