Will Smith Says Floyd Mayweather Jr. Checked Up On Him After The Oscar Slap

Will Smith Says Floyd Mayweather Jr. Checked Up On Him After The Oscar SlapWill Smith revealed he wasn’t alone after the infamous Oscar slap.  Since the infamous Oscar slap that happened eight months ago, we’ve heard of stars that were totally against the “Fresh Prince of Bel’Air” actor Will Smith for his action at this year’s Oscars. We’ve also heard of stars that stood by him through that trying moment of his life.

Stars like Denzel Washington, Terry Perry, Rihanna, etc, were all there for him but, the one star that stood out with his checkup on Will is Floyd Mayweather Jr.

During a private screening for his upcoming film “Emancipation,” Will Smith revealed that in the first ten days that followed his Oscars scandal, Floyd called him on his phone every day for those ten days to know if he was okay.

The surprising thing is that Will admitted to never being close friends with Floyd but the amount of care Floyd showed him during that period was amazing. In a video obtained by TMZ, Will told the audience that, “[Floyd and I] met each other, we’ve seen each other around, but we weren’t like, friends.”

“And, the day after the Oscars, for 10 days, he called me every day,” explained Will. “And he was like, ‘Hey, you know you the champ, right? You good? You know you the champ, right? I want you to hear my voice say it. Every day he called me, and it’s like, that’s my dude forever right there.”

Floyd who was amongst the crowd in the audience was seen in the video nodding his head in confirmation before mouthing “That’s right.”

Will Smith — About The Infamous Oscar Slap

Allow me to take you down memory lane a little. It all went down on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the Oscars 94 Annual Academy Award, when Chris Rock was called up to deliver a speech and also give the “Best Actor” award to Smith for his role in King Richard.

After Rock had come up, he made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett’s bald hair saying “Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it, all right?” Everyone present laughed at the joke except Jada who didn’t find it funny because her shaved hair was as a result of a medical condition she has.

When Smith saw that his wife wasn’t laughing, he walked up to Rock and delivered a sounding slap to Rock while screaming “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.” Smith, after going on to win the Best Actor award that same night, did not apologize to Rock for the slap.

Will Smith — Will’s Public 10-Year Ban & Public Apology To Rock

A day after the Oscar slap, Will took to his Instagram to issue an apology to Chris Rock, and the Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences for his actions. He explained that his reaction to Rock’s joke was done out of love for his wife. Four days after his Instagram apology to Rock, on April 1, Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences and said he’ll accept any punishment given for his action.

On April 8, The Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences issued a ten years ban to the King Richard actor, “The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events including the Academy Awards.”

So… four months ago, on July 29, Will Smith made a video to apologize for his assault on Chris Rock and to also reply to the question of why he didn’t apologize to Rock at the Oscars.

In the video, Will explained that he did reach out to Rock so that he can directly apologize to Rock for his behavior at the Oscars but he was told that Rock is not yet ready to talk but will reach out to him when he is ready. Will Smith actually publicly apologized to Chris Rock in that video for his actions.
