If you missed Will Smith and Martin Lawrence at this year’s CinemaCon, don’t fret, it’s for a good reason. It means that we’ll soon be seeing Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as the gun-slinging hardcore detectives of “Bad Boys.” You can even say that the boys are hard at work.
The stars appeared virtually at this year’s CinemaCon to explain the reason they’re not at the convention in person. The explanation is tied to a special announcement.
Per a report by Variety, filming for “Bad Boys 4” have been going on for the past four weeks, with Lawrence, 58, adding, “We’re not sorry we couldn’t be there.”
Smith, 54, chimed in excitedly, “We glad we not there because we here and they’re paying us to be here.” He also said that he and his co-star feel hyped up to finally be this close to releasing another movie in the “Bad Boys” franchise.
In January, Smith and Lawrence officially teased the return of “Bad Boys” with an Instagram video, captioned, “IT’S ABOUT THAT TIME!”
In the clip, we see Smith driving to Lawrence’s house, telling fans that he’s going to give them a hint to use and try ro unravel what his big news would be. We then hear the soundtrack, “Shake Ya Feather” by Nelly, Diddy, and Murphy Lee, from “Bad Boys II” start playing.
“I wish I was you not knowing what I’m about to show me,” Smith told the camera.
After pulling in, getting out, and knocking on Lawrence’s door, his co-star opens the door to ask, “it’s about that time?” before they confirmed the upcoming sequel. The stars were also spotted on set in Atlanta.
Since The Oscars’ Slap Controversy, Smith Has Only Appeared In One Movie – 2022’s Apple TV+ Release “Emancipation.”
Following the virality of the “slap heard around the world,” Lawrence would go on to deny that the Oscar incident scrapped their plans for a “Bad Boys 4” in July.
“For us to come together and prove that we can deliver, and we can pull people into the box office — that two Black stars, two sitcom stars, could make money at the box office [was huge],” Lawrence said of 1995’s original “Bad Boys” at the time.
