Will Smith Spotted Shooting A New Project In Ecuador With The National Geographic

If you want, you can stay trapped in the Oscars controversy, Will Smith is moving on. The legendary actor was seen filming a nature-type documentary with National Geographic/Disney+. In released pictures, he looked relaxed and happy shooting his new project.

Will Smith – Teams Up With National Geographic To Shoot A Project

At the moment, very little is known about the project that’s taken the 53-year-old “Gemini” star to North America, specifically Alausí, a town in Ecuador’s Chimborazo province.

The project, “Welcome To Earth”, is expected to explore wildlife and the natural environment. Smith was photographed aboard the La Nariz del Diablo train wearing a long-sleeved shirt and baseball cap, and blowing a kiss to fans through the window on Thursday, September 1st.

Apart from this project, the “King Richard” star has several other projects lined up, including being an executive producer on the reboot of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and starring in the sequel of the epic 2007 movie “I Am Legend.” The original movie showed Will Smith as the sole survivor of a plague, which swept through New York. At the time of its release, the movie received positive reviews from critics.

One of Smith’s projects with Netflix was cancelled in a wave of cutbacks after the streaming giant lost millions in revenue. Even though the cancellation came after the Oscars controversy, sources believed that it wasn’t the reason Netflix axed the show.

What Caused The Oscars Controversy And What Has Will Smith Done About It

During the March 27 Oscars broadcast, Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. At first, the joke didn’t seem to bother Will too much, but his wife’s reaction provoked him to action. The actor, who later won his first Oscars that same night, walked up on stage and struck the comedian.

The slap went viral and for weeks, it was the only thing the internet wanted to talk about. Unsurprisingly, the memes from the moment were plenty.

Will Smith, after issuing an apology to Chris Rock for hitting him, resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was banned from attending the awards night for the next ten years.

“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out,” Smith said. “So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
