Queen Latifah is ready to share her life story with fans, and she’s bringing a longtime friend onboard to help her tell the story in a most unique and personal way. Queen Latifah Announces Biopic That Will Take Fans “Beyond The Music”
Queen Latifah’s life is officially heading to the big screen, courtesy of Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment’s commitment to produce a number of biopics based on the lives and careers of hip-hop artists.
“We all came into this industry together and Hip Hop has shaped each and every one of us. Hip Hop’s impact has expanded beyond just music and has created a lasting impression on culture and society overall,” Latifah, 54, and Compere said in a joint statement. “It is a dream to be able to collaborate with friends and colleagues that have not only a shared understanding, but are able to tell these stories that were the backdrop of our lives.”
Will Smith Praises Queen Latifah After Joining On As Producer For Her Biopic
Smith, who is already attached as a producer for the project and is a veteran of hip-hop as well, said: “When you bring talented people and teams together, you can create something truly special. I’m thrilled to work alongside Flavor Unit, Jesse Collins Entertainment and HarbourView, to highlight the incredible stories of some of our favorite artists and icons. There’s no better story to start with than the one of Queen Latifah, an undisputed legend who has both entertained and inspired us for so many years.”
Born Dana Elaine Owens, Queen Latifah first gained her time in the spotlight in 1989 with her debut album, ‘All Hail the Queen.’ Since then, she’s released seven studio albums as a rapper and singer. In 1991, she embarked on her acting career with roles in ‘Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever’ and ‘House Party 2.’
In the next two decades, she has spent it growing in her craft and snagging a Golden Globe Award, Emmy Award and Grammy Award along the way. Since 2021, she has been playing a lead role in CBS’ ‘The Equalizer.’
