Chris Rock just finalized the premiere date for his new Netflix comedy special. And it will debut almost exactly 12 months from the date when Will Smith hit Rock at the Oscars. As a result, rumors have soared about whether Chris will mock the actor in his Netflix show.

Find out what to know about Chris Rock’s new comedy special. And learn what clues exist to whether Rock will throw shade at Smith. Get all the details below.

Netflix – Chris Rock Comedy Special To Target Will Smith?!

Titled Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, an upcoming special show on Netflix will see Chris Rock live-streaming. And the debut date, March 4, just happens to fall almost a year after the Oscars where Will Smith, 54, hit Rock, 57. Because of the timing, some suspect that Chris will use at least part of his comedy special to throw shade at Will.

However, if Rock does decide to look back at what happened, he will face a decision on recalling his joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith that set off the incident. It all took place at the March 27 Oscars ceremony. Just before Smith nabbed the Best Actor award, Rock joked about Jada’s shaved head. Will’s 50-year-old wife suffers from a condition that causes hair loss. And Jada’s infuriated husband went quickly to the stage and hit Chris on live TV.

In a video apology, Smith shared his regrets. But Will revealed, “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk.” However, Smith added, “When he is, he will reach out.” But then Will directly apologized. And he said, “So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

On stage during his U.K. tour, Rock joked about the slap. But Dave Chappelle, 49, went further. And he asserted that Will “did an impression of a perfect man for 30 years.” As to whether Chris will pick up on that theme in his Netflix comedy special remains a mystery.

Chris Rock: Selective Outrage will make history as Netflix’s first live-streamed comedy special in a global event. And Netflix executive Robbie Praw praised Rock, calling Chris “one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation. We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history.” And the Netflix exec predicted “an unforgettable moment,” expressing enthusiasm that Chris will carry “this torch.” Fans can see the results when Chris Rock: Selective Outrage premieres on Netflix on March 4, 2023 at 10 pm ET/7 pm PT.
