Willem Dafoe Joins “Beetlejuice 2” Alongside “Wednesday’s” Jenna Ortega

The “Beetlejuice 2” franchise is heating up. Just a few days after Ortega’s casting was announced, a brand new star has been tapped to join the sequel to the epic 1988 horror comedy.

This is “Beetlejuice” for a new generation, and even though a few original casts get to return, there will be a host of exciting new characters joining in.

Who Returns and Who’s New In The Sequel To Horror Classic “Beetlejuice”

Willem Dafoe is the latest big name to join “Beetlejuice 2.” Sources report that production has already kicked off, with Tim Burton back directing 35 years after he directed the original.

Jenna Ortega is leading the cast in a role that will see the “Wednesday” star appear as Lydia Deetz’s daughter, and Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) is a goth so I guess it all works out to have Hollywood’s newest goth-girl play the original goth-girl’s daughter.

Michael Keaton will be reprising his role as the obnoxious ghost, “Beetlejuice.” Other returning stars include Catherine O’Hara – there’s been no talks of Alec Baldwin returning, even though he played a major character in the first movie. Among the new comers are Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci.

While plot details are kept under wraps, Willem Dafoe will be playing the part of a law enforcement officer…in the afterlife. That should be interesting.

“Beetlejuice 2” Release Date Revealed

Last Tuesday, Warners announced the release date for the movie as Sept. 6 2024, taking the previous spot of Marvel’s Mahershala Ali’s “Blade,” following production delays due to the writer’s strike.

In 2016, Tim Burton shared his interest in working on a continuation of the horror classic, saying, “It’s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it’s one of those films where it has to be right,” Burton said at the time. It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel]… it’s something that if the elements are right—because I do love the character and Michael’s amazing as that character, so yeah we’ll see.”
