Yellowstone star Kevin Costner baffled onlookers and TV viewers at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards for several reasons.

First, whoever wrote Costner’s introduction completely eliminated any mention of Yellowstone, sparking rumors that Kevin played a role in that due to an alleged feud over his exit.

And second, Costner cringed and looked uncomfortable amid teaming up with a Barbie movie star to announce an award, complete with a speech. Get all the details below.

Kevin Costner Confuses At Golden Globes

Yellowstone star Kevin Costner skipped the Golden Globes last year. But this year, he made up for his absence by going viral for his memorable appearance on the stage, noted TV Insider.

And it all began when producers teamed up Costner with Barbie movie star America Ferrera. The two prepared to announce the winner of the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy category.

But Kevin’s introduction baffled viewers because it described him as the star, director, and executive producer of the upcoming film Horizon: An American Saga.

Because Kevin actually won his first award for his performance as John Dutton in Yellowstone at the 2023 Golden Globes, onlookers couldn’t figure out why his introduction eliminated any reference to Yellowstone. And some speculated that the alleged feud between Costner and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan had caused the confusing omission.

Kevin Costner Shows No Interest In Barbie Movie

But before Costner and Ferrera revealed the nominees and winner, they went through a seemingly pre-written exchange about The Bodyguard and the Barbie movie. And first the actress praised Kevin’s role in The Bodyguard. But Costner looked bored.

For instance, when Ferrera said The Bodyguard gave her “chills,” he muttered “Aw.” And then Kevin noticeably cringed as he praised Ferrera’s Barbie monologue.

“I think a lot of people really love that scene … the Barbie movie,” said Costner said, not trying to hide his obvious uncomfortable feelings about praising the movie. And then he gave a speech that he obviously disliked giving. “You know, ‘it’s literally impossible to be a woman.’ You know that? ‘You’re so beautiful, you’re so smart. It kills me that you don’t think you’re good enough.’ That was pretty good.”

And the actress faked her shock in return. “Did you, Kevin Costner, memorize my monologue about womanhood from Barbie?” Ferrera asked. But he said, “No.” However, then Costner looked like he was reading a teleprompter as he recited, “But it’s an important message. And it always serves to remind me what’s possible in film.”

However, social media commentators flocked to point out Kevin’s expression and refusal to commit to the awards show script. For instance, one noted, “Kevin Costner is officially the new Harrison Ford.” And another shared, “Kevin Costner is so uncomfortable. He’s like….. this is why I’m in the mountains.” One critic requested, “Someone please save America Ferrera from Kevin Costner who apparently just woke up?”

I felt Kevin was not himself and didn’t want to be there. He seemed uncomfortable and hardly happy. I loved him in Yellowstone.
