Zac Efron and Chris Hemsworth have traveled very different paths in their acting careers. But the High School Musical star and the Avengers: Endgame actor do share something in common. And both recently revealed what they went through to get their impressive bodies in recent movies.
Find out what Zac shared about his pain in achieving his Baywatch body. And learn what Chris admitted it took to build those muscles for Thor. Get all the details below.
Zac Efron – Reveals Baywatch Body Depression
Baywatch will forever be associated with shapely bodies running down a beach. But for Zac Efron, the fitness and diet routine required to get that Baywatch body resulted in agony. And the actor recalled what he went through on a daily basis, reported Variety.
For instance, Efron prepared for the film by going on a regime of diuretics, fanatical fitness, and rigid dieting. And no matter how late filming went, the actor got up at 4 a.m. to exercise. He ate exactly the same three meals daily. As a result, Zac developed insomnia.
“And I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time,” recalled the actor. “Something about that experience burned me out. Ultimately they chalked it up to taking way too many diuretics for way too long. And it messed something up.”

However, the actor also issued a warning to others who want to acquire their own Baywatch bodies. “I don’t know if that’s really attainable. There’s just too little water in the skin. Like, it’s fake; it looks CGI’d. And that required Lasix, powerful diuretics, to achieve.” To recover, Zac tried different paths before finding “mindful” training. He now calls his foam-rolling, massages, and ice baths his “favorite part of the day.”
Chris Hemsworth – Felt Exhausted Shaping Up For Thor
And given the similarities, Zac Efron may want to turn to Chris Hemsworth to offer his healing methods. Because just like Zac, Chris suffered to build the perfect body for a movie. And as he looks back on Thor, Hemsworth admits feeling constantly exhausted, per the Insider.
Working out for Thor: Love and Thunder felt like the biggest challenge yet, according to the actor. And he shared that every time he takes on the role, he suffers more. “Each time I’ve played the character and put the muscle on and out the size on, and then lost it for something else and played another character, there’s muscle memory,” pointed out Hemsworth.

“And I used to say it sort of got easier each time,” he noted. But this time, Chris discovered that developing the character felt “particularly hard. Because the target weight we aimed for was quite a ways above where I’d been before,” Hemsworth struggled to achieve the filmmaker’s ideal.
It took a full year for Chris to train and work on building the impressive body. For instance, Hemsworth experimented with swimming, martial arts, and an intense workout regime. “But I don’t know that I wanna get that big again,” he added.
