“Dad, it’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years,” Zak began in his caption under the iconic image of Robin. “Today, I’m reflecting on the immense love you shared with all of us — your family, your friends, and everyone you met.”
He continued, “You continue to inspire me every single day to do whatever I can to help create a more connected and loving world for our family. Love you forever ❤️”
Remembering Robin Williams’ Legacy
Robin Williams tragically took his own life on August 11, 2014, at the age of 63. In 2020, Zak revealed that his father had been deeply committed to maintaining his mental health, especially in his final days.
“It was something that was a daily consideration for him,” Zak noted at the time.
Throughout his illustrious career, Robin Williams left an indelible mark on generations of fans with his work as a comedian and actor.
Robin Williams began his career in stand-up comedy during the 1970s before starring in a number of iconic films such as Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Good Morning, Vietnam.
His achievements include four Academy Award nominations, winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1988 for Good Will Hunting, along with two Emmy Awards and five Golden Globe Awards.
To millions around the world, Robin Williams was a luminary, a unique talent capable of making audiences laugh uncontrollably with his spontaneous comedic genius or moving them to tears with his deeply emotional performances.
Consider the breadth of his roles: Mork from Ork, the DJ in Good Morning, Vietnam, the whimsical Genie in Aladdin, and the revered English teacher in Dead Poets Society — all characters brought to life by Robin’s extraordinary talent.
Zelda Williams – Debunks Viral Rumors
Zak’s sister, Zelda Williams, also commemorated their father, using social media to dispel a viral rumor that Robin had a pet monkey. The rumor surfaced after a photo of Robin with Crystal the Monkey, who played Dexter in Night at the Museum, began circulating.
“Since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS (they usually are) … I sure as hell will ♥️,” Zelda shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A Family’s Love And Legacy
Robin Williams left behind three children: Zak, 41; Zelda, 35; and Cody, 32.
On July 21, which would have been Robin’s 73rd birthday, Zak paid tribute to his father on X.
“Dad, on what would be your 73rd birthday,” he wrote, alongside a photo of Robin meditating. “I remember you for all the hope and joy you brought to the world.”
“There’s not a week that goes by without someone sharing with me how you helped them through a dark time or a rough patch. I’m so grateful to be your son. Love you forever,” Zak added.
Yet, to his children, Zak, Zelda, and Cody, he was simply “just Robin,” a fun-loving father who enjoyed collecting comic books and toys, riding his bike, and making his kids laugh.
Zak recently spoke with USA TODAY about his father, reflecting on Robin’s greatest movie hits, cherished childhood memories, and how he will remember his dad on this significant anniversary.
Reflections On A Decade Without Robin
In a candid discussion for USA TODAY’s The Excerpt podcast, Zak shared insights into the private life of his father, who was not only “funny” but also very “introspective.”
Zak reminisced about Robin’s love for video games, toys, and comic books, describing him as “a big kid” when it came to their family time.
Zak also mentioned that although he has happy memories of his father all year long, this anniversary is an opportunity to think more deeply about Robin’s charitable deeds and accomplishments.
On July 21, 2024, Zak celebrated what would have been Robin’s 73rd birthday by thanking him and expressing his delight in being his son in a social media post.
