Revivals and reboots of various TV and movies have made the headlines recently and it’s only natural for fans to ask if daytime soaps are included, too. There has been a lot of buzz about a potential reboot of “All My Children” and “One Life To Live.”
Now, ABC’s entertainment president, Karey Burke, has commented on the possibility of reviving these soaps.
During the press tour last winter, Burke hinted that there might be some conversation about a reboot. There seemed to be a minor shift in her response when she was asked about it once again during the recent Television Critics Association. She said, “there have been more discussions.” However, she declined to give more information.
All My Children and One Life to Live Spoilers – Susan Lucci Wants AMC To Be Revived
“All My Children” debuted on the small screen back on January 5, 1970, and ran until September 23, 2011. Meanwhile, “One Life To Live” premiered a bit earlier and ran longer than AMC. It aired on July 15, 1968, until January 13, 2012. After both soaps were canceled, Prospect Park revived and streamed them online in 2013 before getting canceled again due to legal problems behind the scenes.
Soap fans were hopeful that ABC would prepare a reboot for both soaps after it got back its rights to AMC and OLTL in 2017. Even Susan Lucci wants the iconic show to be revived. The actress said they’re “hearing a little buzz.”
“It’s just important to be in the right hands. Lorraine Broderick was the head writer and I know that she’s a beautiful writer, so if she was [on board] that would help a lot,” she said.
The 73-year old actress also made some comments about today’s TV shows like “The Real Housewives” franchise.
“I don’t think they are the modern-day soaps,” Lucci said.
“There’s no storytelling. There’s a lot of editing. It’s, like, they cut to the chase all the time, and I think it’s different,” she continued.
Burke’s comments may spark hope among fans but nothing has been confirmed yet.
AMC and OLTL Spoilers – ABC’s Remaining Drama, General Hospital
ABC Daytime now has only one remaining soap and that’s “General Hospital.” It appears like GH is not going anywhere for a long time given that the sudser is performing well.
Burke said, “GH is doing great!”
“It’s one of our great performers. It’s a successful business for us. The fact that they have perfected that model is, frankly, an example to other producers in our midst,” she explained.
Yes! Very much so!
Most definitely! OLTL fan from day one! Miss it terribly!
Yes yes yes !!!!!
YES FOR ONE LIFE TO LIVE NOT ALL MY CHILDREN. I DON’T WANT TO LOSE Robert Scott Wilson ON DAYS. HE GETS MORE SPOILERS ON DAYS NOT ENOUGH ON ALL MY CHILDREN.
OLTL was one of my favorite shows.
The story’s were awesome
Yes I would love to see the reboot of all my children again I miss it so much
Yes I love both of them. Watched for years
Would love to see them both come back on
Soaps certainly need a boost these days. They have dwindled down so much. Yes I would welcome any soap being rebooted. Please bring back All My Children and One Life To Live!
I love to see them come back
yes iwould love for bothshows to come back
I would love see them come back
When are they going start them back
Absolutely! I’ve missed OLTL so much since its been gone. We want it back! I’ll even start watching AMC!
I was a fan from a very young age (5-1966). My aunt always had her “shows” on and I was immediately hooked. Thank goodness for VCR’s in later years. I watched until they canceled. I would definitely watch if they return.
Yes!
ONLY ONE LIFE TO LIVE NOT ALL MY CHILDREN. THERE ARE SOME ACTORS I LOVED IS DEAD IN REAL LIFE. JOHN CALLAHAN, DAVID CANERY AND JAMES MITCHELL. I DON’T WANT Robert Scott Wilson BACK ON ALL MY CHILDREN ONLY DAYS.
They sure have. Even the number of actors in the shows have decreased a lot, to the point where every day you are seeing the same people over and over and over ago. Especially the B&B. Nobody left in the show and the ones that are just keep repeating the same dialogue over and over again. It’s become a bad soap. I don’t really watch it anymore but I hate talk shows so have to watch something.
Sure would. I was so upset when they canceled All my Children that I actually shed a tear or two. The changes might be too much for everyone though. You can’t possibly have Erica as the sexy lady who charmed the men, that she was in AMC. She is still beautiful but her age is showing. Anyway would love to see it back.
I feel very confident that we will see reboots of both soaps in the near future. The pandemic probably pushed some plans back but that won’t effect either show as they will both be back probably as 30-minute soaps sharing an hour together. The genre needs a boost and announcing that these two soaps would return will be so huge for the industry. It will be the first time we would’ve had good news like this after the other soaps got cancelled in a 5-year stretch from 2007-2011 with Passions through One Life to Live.
I think both soaps will comeback huge too and that will only help ABC who has lost a lot of viewers after those two soaps were cancelled.
Absolutely Yes.Bring them both back.Drop the talk shows.
Sounds good to me, but I’m not going to get my hopes up.
Absolutely would love to see OLTL and AMC back, I miss their stories. Please bring them back.
it’s a great idea. they should also bring back soapnet. show old episode of soaps.
