Burke said, “There’s nothing that I can report definitively, but I can tell you it’s something we’re thinking about and looking into and having conversations about.” “Should there be the right opportunity, we will revisit… We’re really looking at everything, other models and ways of telling those stories,” she added.
During the 1970s, daytime was saturated with several soaps including “The Guiding Light,” “As the World Turns,” “All My Children,” and “Another World.” But four decades after, daytime soaps significantly reduced and now, all that’s left are four sudsers including “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “General Hospital,” and “Days of Our Lives.”
“All My Children” ended their run in 2011 while “One Life To Live” ended during 2012. The shows lasted for 41 and 43 years, respectively, before they were terminated and replaced with “The Chew” and “The Revolution.” The latter didn’t last that long since it ended after six months on the air and then was replaced by “Good Afternoon America.” “The Chew,” on the other hand ran for seven seasons before it got replaced by “GMA Day,” which was later on rebranded as “Strahan & Sara.”
“All My Children” and “One Life To Live” were revived briefly on the Online Network back in 2013. But the rights to the show’s characters were returned to ABC. This was not the first time that a possible reboot of the two soaps was brought up. Back in February, Burke was asked about the same thing. She simply responded, “There might be some conversation about that. There might be.” At that time, she also praised the performance of “General Hospital” and teased that the show is sure to have a long future ahead.

Yes! I grew up with these shows and I would love to see them back! PLEASE BRING THEM BACK!!!
I am still a die hard General Hospital fan after 47 years. The ratings may show as low because many people have cut their cable and you have to have a cable provider to watch them on the ABC website. So a lot of people watch them on random online streaming sites.
About to retire, these shows will fill my days with happiness. Cannot wait.
Maybe they shouldn’t have canceled them in the first place. More talk shows that have same guests different days.
It’s about time!
Please please please bring back AMC!
The ratings are very low. And with Billy being gone a lot more of us plan on tuning out.
Bree you’re right it has more to do with what you said and not Billy at all as he wasn’t ever driving the ratings for the show. Everything on television is down especially year-to-year as people have other options and some of them are choosing to watch GH at a later time and not live.
I think it will be great business for ABC to bring those two soaps back it will help with the overall morale of the network as ABC is now a fourth place network these days behind FOX. It could help ABC’s image if they chose to reboot both soaps back as 30-minute shows. I think this can be done and I think we’ll see it eventually in the next couple of years.
ABC-TV never should have cancelled ALL MY CHILDREN – Was a foolish mistake and they didn’t even consider ‘trimming’ the show down to a half hour ~ no soap needs to be an hour since it’s shown every day –
It wasn’t their best decision to end them from the first. They replaced it with shows that couldn’t stand the test of time unlike AMC and OLTL.
