Details Surrounding Paul Avery’s Passing
Paul and Sheila passed away on Tuesday, June 16. The couple’s daughter, Kyle, confirmed the news via Facebook.
Kyle wrote, “I’m devastated to share that our parents, Paul and Sheila Garry Avery, passed away early this morning.”
She continued, “We loved them so much, and they loved us so much, and nobody ever had to wonder if that was so. We’re grateful to the Blairstown Fire Department for their efforts.”
Avery joined the AMC cast in the 1980s, and was in the recurring role on the ABC soap for 12 years.

Paul Avery’s Legacy
In addition to AMC, Avery was also in the 1978 movie, Superman, playing a cameraman. He appeared in primetime comedies like Soap and Three’s Company, as well.
During his two decades as an actor, Avery was in over 300 commercials for brands like Odor Eaters and AT&T. He also was the voice of the yellow M&M in a number of M&M ads. As a teen, he enjoyed skydiving and also served in the Vietnam War as a helicopter crew chief.
He would go on to pilot airplanes as a hobby decades later. When he left his acting career and retired, he joined local New Jersey papers, working as a journalist.
Avery was also published in The New York Times before becoming the Ridge View Echo’s founding editor.

The actor enjoyed volunteering in the community; however, pulled back on this in 2018 to devote his time to taking care of his wife after she had a stroke.
Avery was 81 years of age when he died. He and Sheila are survived by their children, Kyle, Parker, and Paul.
