As The World Turns spoilers and news reveal with All My Children being reimagined as a holiday film on Lifetime, Soap Hub decided to connect with some beloved stars. Here’s what As The World Turns alumni said about the possibility of a revival of their show.
As The World Turns Spoilers – The Show’s History
The series was broadcast on CBS from 1956 until 2010, earning its place as one of the longest-running daytime dramas in television history. Created by Irna Phillips, a trailblazer in the soap opera field, “As the World Turns” delved into the lives, romances, and struggles of the inhabitants of the fictional town of Oakdale.
Renowned for its blend of family-oriented drama and socially pertinent narratives, it became a beloved fixture of daytime TV for over fifty years.
Initially focusing on the Hughes family, the show gradually broadened its scope to feature a diverse array of characters and families. It rose to fame in the 1960s for its authentic depiction of daily life, setting itself apart from many contemporaneous soaps that favored glamorous or exaggerated plots.
ATWT Spoilers – The Show Tackled Serious Social Issues And Won Awards
Over the years, ATWT addressed significant social topics such as mental health, addiction, and same-sex relationships, frequently gaining attention for its forward-thinking narratives.
As the World Turns garnered multiple Daytime Emmy Awards during its tenure and played a pivotal role in the careers of various actors, including Julianne Moore, Meg Ryan, and Marisa Tomei.
Although it maintained a dedicated fanbase, the series faced challenges with falling ratings in the 2000s, ultimately concluding its journey in 2010 after more than 13,000 episodes.
It was the second long-running soap cancelled by CBS in a few months, preceded by the even longer-running Guiding Light.
As The World Turns Spoilers – Martha Byrne Speaks Out
Martha Byrne, known for her role as Lily Walsh, shared her thoughts on the possibility of an ATWT movie reboot.
She expressed enthusiasm, stating, “I believe it’s a fantastic idea; with Proctor and Gamble re-entering the soap opera scene, it would make discussions much more feasible. In the past, when many of us, myself included, attempted to revive the show, the timing just wasn’t right, and we faced various challenges.”
When asked what she envisions for Lily in a potential reboot, Martha replied, “Given the recent passing of Elizabeth Hubbard (Lucinda Walsh), I think it’s important to address that significant loss in a meaningful way.”
AWTW Spoilers – Lily Would Be Handling All Of Lucinda’s Businesses
Lily would oversee all of Lucinda’s businesses, creating many exciting storylines. The reunion of Holden Snyder (Jon Hensley) and Lily would be a thrilling plot for fans who want more, offering a rich area to explore.
Interviewer: What do you miss about working in soap operas? Martha: I miss our family-recently, some of us came together to support each other after losing someone dear; we comforted one another but also shared laughter and lifted each other’s spirits. That bond is something we haven’t felt since, no matter where life has taken us after the show ended.
As The World Turns Spoilers – Ellen Dolan Tells Her Feelings About A Reboot
Ellen Dolan, who portrayed Margo Hughes, was asked about her thoughts on a possible movie reboot of ATWT. She believes fans would really enjoy seeing their favorite characters again.
While she has shifted her focus to writing and no longer acts, she feels a strong connection to Margo and would love to bring her back.
Ellen envisions Margo as continuing her role as Chief of Police, following in the footsteps of Dan McCloskey, who was a wonderful character and is greatly missed. She emphasizes the importance of Margo remaining a strong female leader in her role.
ATWT Spoilers – What Does Ellen Miss About Being On Soaps?
Ellen: What do I long for about my days in the world of soap operas? To be truthful, it is the remarkable work ethic that captivates me; the joyous spirit of our rehearsals truly epitomized the essence of the experience—utterly delightful and filled with laughter.
I deeply miss the camaraderie of our entire production team-as for As the World Turns, I was one of those who believed its legacy was indestructible. Yet, alas, time has its own course… And, of course, I cannot help but reminisce about the substantial paychecks that accompanied those glorious days!
As The World Turns – What Does Van Hansis Think?
Next, Van Hansis, who played Luke Snyder on ATWT and recently took over as Lucas Jones on General Hospital, was asked what he thinks about the possible reboot. Van: I was unaware that an AMC movie was in the works; I believe a ATWT film would be an exciting addition. It would be great to find out what everyone’s up to in Oakdale now, and fans of these discontinued shows would definitely appreciate it.
These characters and their stories were part of people’s daily lives for many years. Revisiting them after all this time would feel like a nostalgic family reunion, not just for the cast and crew, but for the audience as well.
ATWT Spoilers – Where Does Van See Luke Now, Were There A Reboot?
Interviewer: Where do you think Luke is in his life now? Van: I often think about what could have happened to him; I imagine he’s very wealthy. Perhaps he has taken over Damian Grimaldi’s (Paolo Seganti) shipping business and might still be living in Oakdale or in Malta; he has good intentions but can be tough in business.
If I were to write his story, I’d portray him as a businessman who, after Reid Oliver’s (Eric Sheffer Stevens) death, has closed himself off emotionally, only focused on his work. Noah Mayer (Jake Silbermann) has become a documentary filmmaker, and they haven’t really connected since the series ended; he’s now married to someone else.
As The World Turns Spoilers – What About Scott Holmes, How Does He Feel?
Next, Scott Holmes who played Tom Hughes was interviewed-this is what he said. Interviewer: What are your thoughts on the idea of reviving ATWT as a TV movie?-Scott: I believe a TV movie would be a fantastic experience. Interviewer: Where do you envision Tom at this stage in his life?-Scott: I’d like to think Tom is enjoying retirement, perhaps teaching scuba diving along the beautiful Amalfi coast.

ATWT Spoilers – Paul Leyden Weighs In
Next, Paul Leyden was interviewed, who played Simon Frasier; he weighs in. Interviewer: How do you feel about the idea of ATWT being turned into a movie?-Paul: Honestly, just getting a film made these days feels like a miracle, so I’d be thrilled if they could pull it off! Interviewer: Where do you envision Simon at this point in his life?-Paul: Well, he’s likely living in a parallel universe compared to my own life. I’m happily married with a lovely family, enjoying life in Paris and the French countryside; I can imagine Simon hasn’t changed much.
He’d probably be somewhere in the south of France, maybe St. Tropez, hopping from one scheme to another, falling in and out of love, and still grappling with the loss of Katie, the love of his life.
