Julian McMahon, Another World Star, Dies at 56—Remembering His Memorable RolesSad news for Another World (AW) fans, Australian-American actor Julian McMahon, who played Ian Rain on the soap, has passed away at the age of 56.

McMahon’s Wife Statement

Kelly McMahon, Julian’s wife, confirmed the news, giving Deadline the following statement:

“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer.”

McMahon went on to say, “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.”

Kelly closed the statement asking for support and privacy for the family during this difficult time, and added they are ‘grateful’ for all the wonderful memories they shared.

Julian McMahon’s Legacy

McMahon got his start in acting on Australian soaps but hit it big when he entered the land of Bay City as Ian Rain on Another World in 1993. The actor stayed in the role until 1995, and would achieve primetime success in series like Charmed, Profiler, as well as Nip/Tuck. He also worked on the movie franchise, Fantastic Four, playing Doctor Doom.

During an interview with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) in 2020, McMahon acknowledged his AW days and remembered some fond memories of his time there, talking about his first scene at the Cory mansion with Judi Evans (Paulina Carlino) whom he acknowledged as a “sweet, sweet girl.”

He notes that he had to get out of the Cory pool in a Speedo, and was like, “‘Oh, all right, I guess this is what you do. You put on your undies and you get out of the pool.”

He also added, “I remember the soap fans were great fans and I loved my time there, so I’m just glad to hear that some of the soaps are still going, and hopefully some of the fans still enjoy some of the work I put out these days.”
