One Life to Live Shocker: Ron Carlivati Drops Vampire Spin-off Confession

Ron Carlivati, the former head writer of “One Life To Live,” revealed that the show almost had a vampire-themed spinoff back in 2008. He revealed that he pitched a spinoff called “One Life to Live: Resurrection” to the network but it didn’t move forward.

Carlivati said in a tweet, “I pitched a vampire soap spinoff of One Life to Live to ABC in 2008 for SoapNet. Alas, they didn’t go for it.”

He made the comment recently, after the news broke that ABC has picked up “The Brides,” a vampire soap opera that’s created by the team behind “Riverdale,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” and the soon to air “Katy Keene.”

The Cast

Carlivati shared that if his pitch was picked up, the soap would feature several awesome stars. He imagined the cast would a few of daytime’s super stars including Renee Goldsberry of “One Live to Live,” Michael Easton of “General Hospital,” Thorsten Kaye of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Melissa Archer of “One Life To Live,” Lynn Herring and Kelly Monaco of “General Hospital.

Although “One Life to Live” never got its vampire spinoff, “General Hospital’s” spin-off “Port Charles” had its share of these blood-sucking creatures. When asked if this could have been the reason why his idea never came to life, he said, “That ended in 2003. This would have been a follow-up series.”

Carlivati’s Career

Carlivati’s is known for his tenures on famous soap operas “One Life To Live” and “General Hospital.” Now, he’s working as the head writer of NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.”

He was promoted as the head writer of “One Life To Live” back in 2007. After the show as canceled, he took over the same role on ABC’s “General Hospital” in 2012.

He joined the team of “Days of Our Lives” in 2017 and was appointed head writer, replacing Ryan Quan and Dena Higley.

Throughout his career, he won two Daytime Emmy Awards. In 2018, he won Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series for “One Life to Live” and another one for “Days of Our Lives” in 2018.

He also won Writers Guild of America Award for Daytime Drama Writing in 2016 and Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series for “General Hospital” in 2014 and 2015.
