ITV Coronation Street spoilers and updates reveal that the iconic soap is doing its best to bring the show back to the airwaves in the purest, truest form possible following the coronavirus pandemic which halted production back in March.

Since that time the world has changed drastically in terms of day to day protocol and the show is not immune from also having to follow mandatory guidelines as it relates to COVID-19.

The soap began filming this week following the hiatus and showrunner Iain MacLeod recently shared details about the start of filming, including an inside look at what the show’s first stunt will be.

MacLeod spilled the details at a virtual press conference this week. Although he was careful not to give too many specifics away, he announced a very important tidbit about the show’s very first stunt.
The first post-pandemic stunt will involve a car crash on the cobbles!

“We are embarking on our first post-pandemic car stunt fairly quickly now we’re back,” MacLeod spilled. “It’s two characters in vehicular jeopardy who will look as if they are right on top of each other and touching, but actually it will be shot with nobody within two meters of the other.”

That kind of creative wizardry deserves many kudos as the UK’s American soap counterparts have given no indication that they are planning to film, let alone gone back to the set. All soaps film in California and the governor has announced that filming can begin Friday, June 12, but to date, no show has stated their intention to return from hiatus.

The UK And Australia Have Begun Filming Soaps While America Lags Behind

“A lot of thought is going on right now about how you achieve that mind-bending difficult thing,” said MacLeod. “There will be some cheating, for example, we’ll make it look like ‘Character A’ is in front of a vehicle and knocked over by ‘Character B’, but with no proximity between the actors or stunt performers at all. There are ways of making it look as if there is physical contact.”

MacLeod said that the requirement that actors be at least two meters is a difficult one to achieve. “How on earth do you make a program about social interactions, romance, people punching each other by adhering to social distancing? It’s been incredibly challenging,” he explained.

“We’ve stripped everything back to what soap originated with: brilliant dialogue played by an exceptionally talented cast. Hopefully, it will be just as good but just a bit different.”
