Viewers may recall that Cathy got upset when Tracy dismissed her suggestion about having a fundraising event in memory of Oliver Battersby (Emmanuel and Jeremiah). She didn’t take the rejection well as evidenced by her actions. She posted nasty comments online, which suggested that Tracy and Steve were siphoning money from the fund. Brian took the fall for what Cathy did and the locals, after hearing what they’ve done, gave them the cold shoulder.

The only trolling storyline will continue next week. Cathy and Brian will continue to face backlash and it will start to affect their business, The Kabin. They will get disturbing news from David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) the Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) Corner Shop is now selling greeting cards and newspapers, which The Kabin was known to provide. Brian confronts Dev about it but the latter won’t budge.

Things turn for the worse when someone throws a brick through The Kabin’s window. This incident finally breaks Cathy and she finally admits to both Tracy and Dev that it was her who wrote those comments. Tracy will be infuriated and Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell), who later on finds out about what happened, will tell Cathy to stay away from her.

But it’s not just Cathy and Brian who will get affected. Cathy’s nephew Alex will also experience trolling after trying to defend his aunt on social media. These incidents will force Alex to move to Scotland until things calm down. Cathy will still face more consequences of her online trolling. Fans just have to stay tuned to know when all of these die down.
In an interview, ITV soap’s producer Iain MacLeod said the online trolling storyline shows the consequences of online trolling. Aside from Brian and Cathy being in the spotlight, their nephew Alex will also play a crucial role in the story. Alex gets in trouble for defending his aunt and this results in online cruelty, which is made much more difficult to handle among disabled people.
