If every cloud has a silver lining, William Roache may have just found his. Not only has the man who plays Ken Barlow come back on the beloved show, he has reportedly been given a huge contract. According to reports, Roache has a ginormous contract to continue on Corrie.

The distinguished actor, 89, was with the ITV soap opera when it debuted. He has become a fan fave and the show would not be the same without him. Ahead of his 90th birthday show execs apparently showed the love to Roache, as well they should.
A source told the Daily Star, “Bill is a huge part of Coronation Street and they know how much the fans adore him. They love the idea of marking his 90th birthday with a great storyline. Bill may be pushing 90 but he still has the energy, passion and talent that make him soap’s greatest-ever actor.”

After testing positive for Covid-19, Bill was forced to take a break from playing Corrie fave Ken Barlow earlier this year. He is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-serving television star in a continuous role. He debuted as Ken Barlow in the opening episode of Coronation Street in 1960.
Last year marked the show’s 60th anniversary, in the middle of the ongoing pandemic. Ken Barlow had a major star turn at that time.

Owing to his lengthy duration on the show, Ken has had quite a soaptastic existence. In particular his love life has seen ups and downs and he has been married many times. His brides include Valerie Tatlock, Janet Reid and Deidre Langton.
Ken and hairdresser Claudia Colby (Rula Lenska) were the latest item. Now he is putting his attention to his family. The cobbles serve as home to his sons Peter Barlow and Daniel Osbourne, adoptive daughter Tracy Barlow, adoptive granddaughter Amy Barlow, and grandsons Adam Barlow, Simon Barlow and Bertie Osbourne. Ken’s daughter Susan Barlow was killed in 2001.
Along the way his real sons played onscreen relatives Linus Roache and James Roache, and his grandson James Cunningham also had a part.
