Days after Garcia filed to divorce her ‘DWTS’ pro dancer husband, Chigvintsev, he has replied with his own legal filing. Grab your popcorn, y’all.
Artem Chigvintsev – Makes This Special Request After Wife Nikki Garcia Asks For Physical Custody of Their Son
A month ago, ‘DWTS’ star Chigvintsev, 42, was arrested on charges of domestic violence. Two weeks after this news went viral, Garcia filed for divorce, with her rep writing, “Nikki Garcia has filed for divorce. She continues to ask for privacy for her and her family at this time.”
In her initial petition filed on September 11, 2024, the former WWE star asked for legal and physical custody of their 4-year-old son Matteo, with Chigvintsev being allowed visitation rights.
he also asked that spousal support for both parties be terminated. However in his own filing, Chigvintsev chose to only terminate Garcia’s rights to receive spousal support.
This means that the pro dancer wants to keep financially benefiting from the ‘Bellas’ alum, whilst cutting off any means she could benefit from him in turn.
Let’s try and remember that Chigvintsev is doing this whilst his case is still under review by the District Attorney, who will decide his sentence on a later date based on the evidence provided. At the time of the incident, Garcia and Chigvintsev’s young son was reportedly present.
His domestic violence case further meant that he was cut from the upcoming season of ‘Dancing With the Stars.’
Apart from seeking spousal support, Chigvintsev has filed for joint legal and physical custody of son Matteo.
Garcia and Chigvintsev got engaged in November 2019 – a few months after Garcia split from her partner of six years John Cena – welcomed son Matteo in July 2020 and officially wed in August 2022. The pair officially met on season 25 of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ in 2017, though, at the time, Garcia was still with ‘Barbie’ actor Cena.
