Cheryl Burke – Says The Best ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Contenders Fall In Love With Their Partners

Have you been wondering why romances abound onDancing With the Stars?’ Cheryl Burke’s here with some answers, as well as advice for ‘Dancing With the Stars’ hopefuls.

She shared her insight on the long-running show on the May 31 episode of her podcast, ‘Sex, Lies and Spray Tans.’

When asked by her guest, PEOPLE senior editor Dave Quinn, why she thinks many people hook up on the show, she replied that the whole setting is like “an arranged marriage… And it is black and white. Either love each other or hate each other for real.”

According to the 40-year-old professional dancer, as long as a celebrity and their pro dancer partner are dedicated to the show, they will either feel an extreme like or dislike for each other due to the amount of time they spend getting their steps in.

She explained that most celebrities tend to be “vulnerable” at this stage with their dance partners, which is something that might overwhelm anyone who’s not used to being that way with anyone.

“It’s so intimate, and you’re stuck with this person…you better try and make it work at least,” she said after naming a former celebrity contestant who confessed to developing a crush on his dance partner. FYI they were both married at the time so it didn’t progress.

“You get close in so many ways. These celebrities are so vulnerable because in order to succeed you have to strip it all down. And that alone? I bet you most of these married celebrities have never even done that with their [partners],” Burke said.

“Be single if you do Dancing with Stars. That’s all I’m saying,” Burke advised. Before officially retiring in 2022, Burke was a dancer on the show for 26 seasons.
