Dancing With The Stars News – A Xmas Day Proposal!
Some couples need to take dance classes before their wedding day. But Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) pro Britt Stewart won’t need to worry about that. Because as she and CODA actor Daniel Durant told People, they just became engaged after competing together on season 31.
And Durant found the perfect time and place to propose. The actor celebrated his 34th birthday on Christmas Eve. And then the next day, amid a Christmas Day hike in Lake Arrowhead, California, with their families, Daniel waited until everyone reached the mountain top.
But first, at the top of the mountain, Stewart’s mom and stepdad, Jasmin and Lonnie Speed, and Durant’s moms, Lori Durant and Mary Engels, reflected on their gratitude for their lives. And they revealed what they looked forward to in 2024. However, Durant then shared his proposal.
Dancing With The Stars News – A Joyful Balance
And the actor revealed that he anticipated his future with the Dancing With The Stars pro. He then displayed the ring and asked Stewart, 34, to marry him. And Durant recalled, “I was the last one — and I started talking about the year, about us meeting and everything that happens in life. I just feel like there’s balance. She sees me. She knows my culture, my language, and understands everything about me.”
Confessing that he started to cry, the Dancing With The Stars alum described the scene as “emotional, overwhelmed with joy and at peace knowing that this would eventually be part of our story.” And Britt shared, “It felt like magic. But at the same time, it felt right and normal.”
The newly engaged couple partnered on season 31 of Dancing With The Stars. And they began dating on Valentine’s Day of 2023. But Durant shared why he waited until after the competition season to begin their romance.
Dancing With The Stars – Learning ASL
“I’m a really competitive person, I wanted to win this thing,” he shared. “And so I saw that in her and we trained.” The Deaf actor has become known for his roles in CODA and the 2015 Broadway revival of Spring Awakening. And he revealed that Stewart learned American Sign Language (ASL) directly from him.
“When I met him and found out he was my partner on Dancing with the Stars, immediately I was like, I must learn ASL,” shared the DWTS pro. “Because I’m teaching him how to dance. I’m not going to use his interpreter.” And the couple look back to a key moment in their season as their performance of “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode. Featuring an extended sequence of choreography danced without music, that moment marked “when our lives showed each other. I was really able to see him and his experience in Dancing with the Stars, but then just a little of his life too,” Stewart revealed.
