Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) host Tyra Banks
How does Tyra feel about going from hosting Dancing With The Stars solo to working with a co-host? And does she see any obstacles in making the move from network TV to a streaming service? Find out what Banks revealed below!
Dancing With The Stars – Host Tyra Banks Dishes On New Co-Host
Tyra Banks will return to Dancing With The Stars this autumn to host season 31 with Alfonso Ribeiro. Famous for portraying Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Alfonso also possesses hosting experience from his work on America’s Funniest Home Videos. And Ribeiro also knows the dance competition format well. He even won DWTS season 19 by teaming up with pro dance partner Witney Carson, noted Screen Rant.
But Alfonso comes to the co-hosting position during a tricky time for Dancing With The Stars. For instance, some fans may refuse to make the change from viewing DWTS on ABC to viewing it on Disney+. And others threaten to boycott Dancing With The Stars because they dislike Tyra Banks so much! Because Banks has become known as a diva, some predict disaster in the co-host arrangement.
But the move to Disney+ also presents challenges in airing with no commercials. Because the crew and cast depended on the commercial breaks to change costumes and sets, the no format means challenges. However, it also gives DWTS more opportunities to feature the professional dancers showing off their skills.
Dancing With The Stars – Tyra Banks Explains Why DWTS Needed A Co-Host
Because of all the required changes, DWTS also seeks for some familiar touches. For instance, the use of the sky box for interviews will return in season 31. And Alfonso will take advantage of that sky box to talk directly with the contestants and professional dancers.
As Tyra looks ahead, she dropped a bombshell for those who claimed she didn’t want a co-host and would feel resentful. As a result of the no-commercials format, Banks asserted that she could never manage the change alone. And she called the changes “intense and exciting.” Because DWTS cannot use commercial breaks to clear the sets, viewers can expect “nonstop action.”
As a result, a co-host allows the crew to film “cutaways from the stage.” Those sequences allow the crew to prep the next act. And while Banks hosts from the ballroom floor, Alfonso will use his skills to chat with the contestants. Because Tyra’s new co-host has gone through that experience, Banks gushed about his interviewing skills.
Dancing With The Stars – Co-Host Wins ‘Yes And Yes’ From Tyra Banks!
Alfonso has “been through what the stars will be going through,” pointed out Tyra. “So he will shine talking to them and knowing all the emotions running through their veins.” And Banks recalled her enthusiasm about choosing Alfonso as the DWTS co-host.
“When the team brought up the idea of Alfonso with me, I was like, ‘Yes, yes and yes. Let’s stop right there and look no further.’ Nostalgia is everything these days,” added the DWTS diva. As a result, she felt that the two would shine on the stage together. And Banks gushed that the co-host scenario “will be fun for so many to see.”
