Dancing With The Stars ‘Wicked Night’ Might Not Be Over Yet – What Producers Are Hinting

Dancing With The Stars ‘Wicked’ Night May Not Be Its LastThe Tuesday, October 21st episode of Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) saw ballroom dances integrated with the movie, “Wicked”, and on all accounts, it was a smashing success. So much so, this might not be the last time the reality TV show partners with the franchise during its dancing competition.

Wicked DWTS

The ‘Wicked’ DWTS night marked the first time that the dancing competition show okayed a movie integration, and that’s a lofty achievement considering the show has been around for 20 years!

BBC Studios Chief Ryan O’Dowd recently told tells Deadline that the reality series was approached by Wicked’s Universal team, as the franchise was gearing up for its sequel, which is kind of a prequel, Wicked: For Good, set to release this Friday, November 21.

O’Dowd was quoted as saying, “Those partnerships are becoming more and more prevalent, and we’re not turning those away. We’re looking at the right opportunities and exploiting them when we can.”

He also added, he would continue to look at these types of opportunities, but “never at the expense of the show itself and the creative of the show.”

The unprecedented agreement was a “boom” for the show, as DWTS Executive Producer Conrad Green noted the “money we were able to get as part of that integration meant we were able to do one more show in the series that had really high production values and a really big opening number.”

He added, “It also meant that some of the money we would have spent on that show can be put into other parts of the show, so it basically boosts the production quality of the entire series.”

While the show has done theme nights in the past, like ‘Grease’, the show didn’t get paid for it, as Wicked’s partnership was aligned with promoting the new movie set to be dropped.

Interestingly enough, Green also noted that the show didn’t get any money for the September 30 ‘Tik Tok’ themed episode.

Wicked Ratings

The October 21 episode averaged 6.63M total DWTS viewers, an increase of 11% from the week before. In addition, it brought in the biggest viewership of this season and marked five consecutive weeks of growth for the reality ballroom competition.

Even more, the DWTS Wicked night had some competition with the NBA returning on NBC. The Lakers-Golden State Warriors game only averaged 5.11M.
