Find out what Brooke revealed about Derek. And keep reading to learn how she justified hoping for an affair with Hough despite her marriage at the time to David Charvet.

Brooke Burke Admires ‘Powerful’ DWTS Derek Hough!

Dancing With The Stars judge, choreographer, and former pro Derek Hough and former DWTS co-host Brooke Burke won the Mirror Ball Trophy in 2008.

And now Brooke has recalled how their bond almost resulted in an affair via People. “There is no way that I have ever been so connected — besides with a lover or a husband — than I was with Derek,” gushed Brooke.

And the 52-year-old DWTS winner described her partnership with Hough, 38, on DWTS alum Cheryl Burke’s podcast Sex, Lies and Spray Tans. However, Brooke confessed that when the two first met, she viewed Derek as “so young and green and safe. I had no idea he would be such a powerful, bada*s choreographer.”

But at first, Brooke and Derek didn’t get along. And so producers arranged for couples therapy. But that sparked the DWTS alum’s crush on Derek. However, at the time, Brooke was married to actor David Charvet. The two later split in 2018.

And Burke confessed that only her marriage at the time stopped her. “Had I not been married… I would have actually hoped we would have had a love affair. I don’t think I’ve ever said that,” she added.

But Cheryl recalled how Hough referred to Brooke as “hot” at the time. And Brooke shared, “I would have had an affair with him. But listen, let me tell you why: You are intertwined with someone’s body when you’re not a dancer. There is no way that I have ever been so connected — besides with a lover or a husband — than I was with Derek.”

And the DWTS alum pointed out that their time together involved dancing “every single day. So for three months, you are in someone’s arms. Why do you think people fall in love? You smell them, you feel them, you’re breathing with them. It can be more intimate than making love in a bedroom — you’re making love on a dance floor, you feel more connected.”

DWTS Proved ‘Life Changing’ For Brooke Burke

And the DWTS alum reflected on what her experience meant to her. “If you have energy, you’re doing this dance and you’re in the rhythm, and then there’s trust, then you’re sharing fear, you’re doing something you’ve never done. How many times do you go through an experience with someone where they’re all you’ve got?” asked Brooke.

As she looked back on her life, the DWTS alum revealed that she recalled only “one experience with one person like that [outside the ballroom]. Life-changing.” However, she admitted that prior to their shared chemistry, Hough and Brooke struggled to discover their rhythm in their partnership.

But then Burke and Derek experienced “a meeting of the minds.” And the two “made a commitment and promise to meet each other with honesty and compassion. As soon as we changed our mindset and as soon as we got in it to win it and as soon as we met each other with honesty, something magical happened and we found faith in each other — at least I did — and we just decided to win.”

That win meant they topped the scores on season seven of DWTS. And Brooke also earned a spot as co-host with Tom Bergeron from 2010 to 2013. As a result, Burke views winning the Mirror Ball Trophy as “one of the most amazing moments of my life.”
