Maks Chmerkovskiy Reveals Real Reason Breakup With Peta Murgatroyd Was Delayed

Relationships are not always so easy, not even when you and your partner are in the same line of business. Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd may be world-renowned dancers who synchronize their steps in the ballroom, but outside the ballroom, things are not so perfect or easy as doing a “and a 1 and a 2” and stuff and stuff.

There was this one time the couple called it quits, and believe me, there was a lot of drama to unpack there before they could resume their fairytale romance.

Nothing’s worse than waking up in the morning to find out that the love you were beginning to dream would last forever is heading towards a swift and unfulfilled end.

Worst still if the person breaking up with you had been love-bombing you so much the idea they’re breaking up feels so surreal.

Peta and Maks may be enjoying a strong and steady marriage now – to the delight of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ fans – but their courtship wasn’t always so easy.

“He was the one to say, ‘I want to marry you. This is where we are going to get married.’ And then he dumps me, like, five months later or something,” Peta confessed on the Amy & T.J. podcast
“That is what men do when they are in love. They run,” Maks agreed, before revealing how he delayed breaking up with Peta because she got him this $8000 Louis Vuitton suitcase as a gift.
In her defense, she only bought a gift that expensive because she thought they were in it for the long haul.

“We were so in love, there’s no reason for expensive presents, you know what I’m saying? My love is what it was. And then bam! You put me on the spot though. I wanted to break up and I was like, ‘No, she bought me this thing.’ I have to own it for a couple of days,” Maks shared. “And I drove her to the airport, she was flying to L.A. I haven’t said a word — this is a true story.”

Surprising Way Maks Made Peta Realize He Still Loves Her

On her way out the door and out of Maks life, Peta made an astounding discovery.

“On the way to the airport, he said to me, ‘Why did you pack up all of your things? Why did you take all the suitcases with you?’ I’m like, ‘Well, you’re breaking up with me, right? Why would I leave stuff at your house?’” Peta remembered.

“He was just like, ‘You’re so black-and-white. Why would you take everything from the house?’” she continued. “And I was like, ‘Wait, a second, do you still want me there partially?’

Like, it was so strange. That’s how I knew, ‘OK, this guy is just going through something. Let’s give it a second.’”
The split, as you can imagine, didn’t last too long, and come 2017, they were walking down the aisle. Today, they share three beautiful children.
