Whoopi Goldberg Questions Anna Delvey’s ‘DWTS’ Casting

Whoopi Goldberg isn’t happy about ‘Dancing With the Stars’ decision to cast convicted felon Anna Delvey on season 33 of the competition series.

The ladies of ‘The View’ weighed in on the new casting shortly after its announcement, and it’s looking like it’ll turn into a full-on battleground pretty soon.

Anna Delvey sadly does not have any friends on ‘The View’ panel. Shortly after her casting, ‘The View’ discussed the whole affair, and well, it didn’t sit quite right with moderator Whoopi Goldberg that Delvey should be part of the lineup.

Even though Goldberg admitted that they “gotta support the network” because ‘The View’ and ‘DWTS’ both air on ABC, it didn’t stop her from saying what she feels.

“I think back to all the families who’ve had family members arrested by ICE, who have gone to the courts to get their dad or their mother or their brother back,” she said. “And this woman, they gave her permission to go do this. Now, should I think there’s a reason. Is there a two-tiered system here with ICE?”

Delvey, born Anna Sorkin, made headlines for pretending to be a German heiress and using her social standing, to defraud wealthy people, banks and hotels. In 2017, she was arrested and convicted of grand larceny in the first, second and third degree as well as theft of services in 2019.

Her sentence included four to 12 years in prison. For good behavior, her sentence was cut short and she was released in Feb. 2021. It didn’t take long after her release for her to be taken into custody by ICE for violating the terms of her visa. She has been under house arrest at her NYC property as she continues to fight her deportation case.

After discussing Delvey’s legal crimes, Sunny Hostin asked, “what’s the consequence [of her crimes?] A bejeweled ankle monitor — a federal bejeweled ankle monitor — and then a spot on a television show?”

Following Whoopi’s arguments on why the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should allow the convicted con artist to appear on a TV show, Delvey reacted by telling them to get their facts right.

“While you are entitled to your own opinions, you should at least get your facts straight,” Delvey, 33, said in a statement to Page Six.

In response to Whoopi’s comments that there are people she’s still owning, Delvey added: “I served my time and paid everyone back in full three-plus years ago. Looking forward to your on-air correction.”

The felon angrily concluded the statement with, “Stay nasty ladies, but don’t forget to vote Sept. 17!”
