After initially telling Angie (Nzinga Blake) no to her request, Nicole Walker Brady (Arianne Zucker) is the one who actually changed his mind. She knew that it wouldn’t be right for Eric to miss out on the opportunity if he felt called to go.

Earlier this week, we watched Eric tell his family that he was going to Africa and explain why. Then, he spent Tuesday saying goodbye to everyone. That will continue on Wednesday’s episode as he says on final farewell to the people of Salem.

It wasn’t that long ago that Vaughan sent fans reeling while he was talking on a podcast. That is when he let it slip that he was no longer filming episodes of the soap. He followed that up with an interview with Soap Opera Digest, in which he explained his decision. At the time, the soap’s renewal was up in the air and nobody knew what was going to happen. Then, after thinking about things, there were other factors that solidified his decision to leave.

Days of Our Lives comings and goings reveal that Nicole will not be leaving with Eric. She is staying behind in Salem. Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) will give Nicole the baby that they both fought to get custody of. However, the condition is that Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) move in with Nicole.

Vaughan has a lot of other projects in the works, including Queen Sugar. Even though the actor has said goodbye, executive producer Ken Corday and head writer Ron Carlivati told SOD that the door was open for him to return.

However, if Vaughan doesn’t, then will the character of Eric Brady be recast? Well, that remains to be seen. We wish Vaughan well in the pursuit of his other projects and he will be missed.
