Days Of Our Lives Director On Why The Big Move To Peacock Can Save The Long-Running Soap

The soap world is still reeling from the fact that Days of Our Lives will be ending its run on NBC in December, just to move over to the network’s streaming platform, Peacock.
Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Could Have Been Canceled
While many fans are up in arms about the fact that they will now have to pay 4.99 a month for Peacock in order to watch their favorite soap, it is better than the alternative, which would be NBC canceling the show altogether.
DAYS has been given a new lease on life by moving to a streaming platform, as that is also the future of television as more and more people give up cable, satellite, and broadcast channels.

DOOL director Scott McKinsey, who previously directed Days of Our Lives, and is the son of soap opera legend Beverlee McKinsey, took to Facebook this past weekend to explain what moving to Peacock really means. And it doesn’t necessarily mean a death knell for the soap, as it did when Passions moved to DirecTV and All My Children and One Life to Live got new life online after ABC already canceled them.
“The show has not been canceled, and/or ‘picked up’ by Peacock. This is a big difference from the sad demise of ABC’s [One Life to Live] and [All My Children],” McKinsey wrote. “All of your favorite characters will remain on the show for the foreseeable future. In fact, the prospect of ‘Days’ remaining in production for the long term just increased as a result of this move. Without Peacock, Days might have been numbered on the Network.”
McKinsey also explained the benefits on streaming over broadcast TV. “I understand peoples’ sour reaction to being asked for money to remain viewers, but let’s look at the positives,” McKinsey wrote. “The monthly subscription includes access to every show DOOL has ever aired, (as I understand it). It allows you to watch a new episode anywhere you have internet access. So you don’t have to view it on your DVR at home, (or lose the episode because your DVR is full, or because the network preempted it for a car chase!)”

I will not be watching after 57 years.. bad mistake on your part. Talked to a lot of fans and the Will SLO’s not be streaming , the older follower and rural weather have no internet. They don’t have Facebook or anything like that. CBS you are sure going to get a lot of new watchers

NBC, not CBS. It’s a smart business move, since NBC is losing money on Days of Our Lives. This might actually save the show for the time being, since it’s been on the brink of cancellation for about 15 years. NBC’s been trying to divest itself of the show for years. They literally let the entire cast go in 2019 to cut back on the budget.
Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that you and all of the executives at Days will get a huge monetary boost, right? Sorry, I’m not buying it! This is greed, pure and simple. Doesn’t matter to me anyway. The writing and the ‘woke’ agenda (which seems to think EVERYONE needs to be gay) have soured me on this soap. THAT is why you are in danger of being canceled. I’ve already stopped watching because of this news and your continued push for ‘wokeism’. So go ahead, go to Peacock! Charge your loyal viewers to watch a show that has become a nightmare. Everyone that I know has stopped watching already. You just made it easy for more people to do the same!

I’m just thinking more of our elderly viewers people who rely on their stories every day to watch that make their day do you think granny is going to be using a computer to stream the show I’m paying for it?
$4.99 is nothing to many people. To the mass of seniors, that kept DOOL alive for many years, it is a hard thing to do. We all live on fixed incomes & small savings.
To us it’s the ultimate FU, you don’t care.
To put another news station in its place is ludicrous.
I got rid of network TV a long time ago and only use streaming apps. I really don’t care that they made this move.
Yeah, people are going to have to adapt to the times or be left behind. NBC is losing money on Days of Our Lives. It’s been the lowest rated soap for years now, and soaps in general are dying out anyway. They have been for years. As The World Turns was losing viewers back in 2004-2008 and went off the year literally a year after Guiding Light. A year after that, All My Children and One Life To Live were cancelled. They tried to reboot them on streaming with the Online Network and Prospect Park, but that failed and ABC’s lawsuit that they won against Prospect Park killed it all together. The reboots were awful anyway and completely unrecognizable. So a year after their network cancellation, both AMC and OLTL were cancelled yet again for good. That means four soaps were cancelled within three years (2009-2012). The death may have slowed for a bit, but it’s inevitable.
Times are different now. Women are working during the day, not staying at home watching soaps. That audience isn’t there anymore. Luke and Laura’s wedding got 30 million viewers. Now, GH gets 2.5 million and it’s one of the higher rated soaps on daytime television today. That’s how dire it is. Daytime is a dying genre. The only way it might be able to survive is on streaming.
I understand that NBC5 is going to air some kind of news program in the place of DOOL. Doesn’t NBC have enough news throughout the day. Starting at 4:30 – 11:00 am with local news and the Today Show. Then again starting at 4:00 – 6:30 pm with local news and national news. Then again at 10:00 pm. Gee Whiz, we see the same news over and over throughout the day. Enough already.
True, but it’s cheaper to produce. They can’t justify continuing to air DOOL on NBC with the low ratings. Peacock might be the only way to save it long enough to serve out their current contract.
So if you are trying to save DOOL, put it on Peacock but NOT the streaming service. This is just greed.
Peacock IS the streaming service. They’re just moving it to the Premium $4.99/month tier once it goes off of NBC.
Why would I pay for DOOL on peacock?
Lately, your storylines are just downright stupid and very repetitive. It appears you couldn’t hold onto actors, as they come and go constantly. So NBC wants to add yet another news/talk show. Going to restart my library card. Today’s networks aren’t worth watching anymore!
This whole thing makes me so sad and mad at the same time. I have been watching Days since it started, even stayed home from school at times to watch. I haven’t missed a single show and now your taking this away, can’t believe you would do this to the true fans. Even stood in line for many hours to meet some of the cast . You don’t care!!
NBC is a business, not a charity. They’ve always been about their bottom line, and Days of Our Lives is not making them any money anymore. They don’t owe anyone free entertainment. Sony will continue to sell Days of Our Lives to whoever will air it, since they own the show. So, this only affects American viewers.
That a crock of doo doo! I’ve watched since 1970. The show was great in the beginning. It dealt with “relatable” issues, alcoholism, spousal abuse, war/returning with a new face (Mickey and Marie who were brother and sister and fell in love) unlike when Stan (the male Sami, Lucas, and whatever other idiot characters went overseas to “rescue” Philip, who lost his leg. With this Days, it’s now become how many gay and lesbian couples can we create? Surprised Sami hasn’t been written as bisexual yet, since both of her kids are gay and lesbian. Sick of the twisted, stupid dead come back to life ALL THE TIME!!! To add insult to injury, you EXPECT me to PAY to watch this excrement’? TIIC may think that only $4.99 won’t be a big deal, to the head honcho, get you head out of your butts!!! Have you been to the grocery store lately? Meat is outrageous, egg are over $4.50 a dozen, Milk is almost $5.00 a gallon. Gas and electric is over $125.00 MORE each month. If you have oil heat, filling up the tank went from $350 to this coming fall it will be $700 to fill the same tank! So, yes, that $4.99 a month definitely DOES matter. I’d like to say I’ll miss Days, but sadly, I won’t.
