In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, the actress revealed that she’s been working on the script for the movie for more than a year, an experience that she enjoyed very much. She loves the hint of mystery in the story.

The movie, Open By Christmas, follows the story of Sweeney’s character, Nicky, and her best friend, Simone (Erica Durance) who finds a note in a high school book while helping her parents move. She never saw the romantic card before and now she wants to find out who sent it. Simone, her best friend, supports her in her quest to uncover the identity of her secret admirer.

Meanwhile, Simone is a working single mother who feels like she’s losing her connection with her son especially after she made a decision to get married again. Simone asks Nicky for advice. Nicky searches for someone from her past while Simone struggles to deal with her present.

Sweeny revealed that she wanted to create a story with two female leads. The movie isn’t all about romance. She wants to highlight the importance of friendship, romance, and family, during the holiday season.

Nicky is a successful businesswoman who lives in New York. She’s a confident woman who starts to feel anxious as she returns to her hometown for Christmas. When she gets home, it’ll then be revealed that Nicky has an embarrassing story from when she was in high school that she’d rather forget.

The actress revealed that she loved working with her new c-stars especially Erica Durance, who plays her best friend in the movie, named Simone.

Sweeney believed that Durance was the best actress for the role, given her acting credits, experience, and talent. Durance and Sweeney had excellent chemistry on screen. They shared a lot of things in common off-camera, which helped them connect while filming their scenes.

The actress also had a wonderful time working with Brennan Elliot. The movie was much better because of him. He’s funny and a great actor, making him the perfect pick for the character.

Filming a holiday movie months before Christmas isn’t new to Sweeney. She’s used to celebrating Christmas twice on Days of Our Lives and they film scenes months in advance. Plus, she loves Christmas and it doesn’t matter if she needs to put a coat on during summer.
