Days Of Our Lives News: Crystal Chappell Rises Again

The return to Days of Our Lives of grave-digging Vivian Alamain (Robin Strasser), who put the very-much-alive Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) in an early grave, harkens back to another victim Vivian (Louise Sorel) buried alive over 25 years ago—Dr. Carly Manning, played by Crystal Chappell.

Chappell, last seen in 2009 as Olivia Spencer on the now-defunct Guiding Light and in 2013 as Danielle Spencer on The Bold and Beautiful, has risen from the network soap grave to bring the daytime genre and former captor Sorel to life again in the web series arena. Chappell, executive producer and two-time Daytime Emmy award winning actress, stars alongside Sorel in the political drama Beacon Hill, which was also nominated for three Daytime Emmy awards in 2015.

Series stars are asking for the help of fans to film a second season of Beacon Hill, which promises more “political intrigue, family drama, romance” and longer episodes. Although viewers can watch Season One for free for a limited time on Vimeo, Season Two will only move forward with crowdfunding on Indiegogo. With a week left to go until the start of filming, the campaign had amassed $ 80,373, surpassed its initial goal of $ 75,000, and slowly climbed toward the stretch goal of $ 150,000 needed to fund cast, crew, “equipment, rental, insurance, permits, travel, hotel, and location costs.” Available perks for contributors vary from $ 10 show DVDs, coffee cups, and koozies; to a $ 100 Vegas Ice Bar party with Chappell; to a $ 150 phone calls with star Alicia Minshew; to $ 500 set visits. Chappell will even officiate your marriage for $ 2,000.

Chappell and Sorel are not the only daytime heavy hitters featured on Beacon Hill. Nadia Bjorlin, star of Days and Venice: The Series, another of Chappell’s web shows, recently joined the cast to play a senator’s wife. Jacob Young (B&B, All My Children, General Hospital, The Young and the Restless) just signed on to play an ambitious political operative. He has been busy promoting his talk show Daytime After Dark on YouTube.

The folks behind Beacon Hill seemed as disappointed as the fans that one star, Sarah Joy Brown (GH, As The World Turns, B&B, Days), left the show. Brown experienced some political intrigue of her own when she retired from acting in 2018 after announcing that her career had been derailed by the media and CBS executive Leslie Moonves.

Chappell, however, shows no signs of leaving daytime behind. The star began her soap career in 1990 on both Santa Barbara and Days. In 1997, she made another lifetime connection to the world of daytime when she married another “Alamain”, Days co-star, Michael Sabatino (Lawrence Alamain), with whom she shares two children. She has long been a proponent of same-sex relationships on her series and of the belief that “love is love.” She hopes that viewers soon will be able to fall in love with a second season of Beacon Hill.
