Days Of Our Lives News: DOOL Star Merritt Yohnka Has Passed Away

There is sad news to report for Days of our Lives fans, show alum Merritt Yohnka has passed away. Yohnka recurred on the NBC sudser as Joey from 1984 – 1991 and he was an Emmy Award winning stunt coordinator.

He passed away on September 16 in California at the age of 62. Yohnka had been diagnosed with two forms of cancer at his time of death.

Days Of Our Lives News – Show Alum Merritt Yohnka Has Passed

The International Stunt Association announced the news of Yohnka’s death last week.  They posted this tribute on Facebook: “It is with a heavy heart that we inform you all that our ISA brother, Merritt Yohnka passed away this morning. Merritt was loved by so many in the film and television community and also had a significant impact on many of our careers as stunt professionals.”

“We want to thank everyone who donated through City of Hope to help with Merritt’s treatment and also to those who donated financially.”

Yohnka won two Emmys for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for his work on NBC’s Chuck in 2008 and 2009 and he was nominated for the award in 2010.

DOOL poilers – There Is Sad News To Report For Fans

Yohnka’s stunt career began in 1987 and he continued in this line of this work until last year when he worked as a stunt coordinator for Netflix’s Lucifer. His other credits include Star Trek, Last Action Hero, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, Nash Bridges, Spider-Man, Transformers, Captain America: The First Avenger and Straight Outta Compton (2015).

There were many comments from fans on his Facebook tribute including this one: “Via Con Dios Merritt, thanks for the great memories, always a pleasure to work with you or just have a conversation. Thank you for your excellence and humanity and generosity of spirit. Condolences to your family and your extended stunt family of so many friends.”

Another fan wrote, “Always watching for you Merritt! You made it fun & entertaining behind & in front & watching! You will always be an amazing man! Thank you for teaching many of us! You’ll be missed! Godspeed & Rest in Peace brother!”

One fan remembered Yohnka this way: “Such a generous fair talented man …. oh yea and funnier than shit. My life was better for knowing him. Thank you Merritt. Love and prayers to his family.”

Surviving Yohnka are his wife, Cindy, and children Emily, Steven, and Garrett.
