“After all the comas I’ve been in it’s nice to be on this side of the bed,” Rikaart joked in an Instagram post. “Thanks for the insanely lovely and warm welcome @abcmodernfam!”
He will be guest-starring as a gynecologist on the show, which is heading into its 11th and final season next year. A somewhat concealed name tag the Emmy award-winning actor posted on social media suggests the character he will play could be called Dr. Williams.
Rikaart is well known for playing Kevin Fisher on the Y&R, a role he originated in 2003. He played Michael Baldwin’s (Christian Le Blanc) troubled younger brother on the soap until September 2018. First introduced as an internet predator who targeted a teenaged Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), Kevin was so popular with viewers that the writers decided to redeem the character, and turn him into a law-abiding citizen.
He joined the DOOL cast in March 2018 (still returning to the Y&R occasionally) as Leo Stark. Leo has shaken things up in Salem since he arrived, blackmailing Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith) into a sham marriage that broke up Sonny and Will Horton (Chandler Massey). Rikaart was also recently reunited with his Y&R mother, Judith Chapman (Gloria), who joined the DOOL cast to play Leo’s mother Diana Cooper.
Modern Family isn’t Rikaart’s first guest-starring gig. He’s also guest-starred on The Closer, CSI: Miami and Bones, among other shows. Y&R and DOOL Fans were excited by the actor’s news.
“Wow that is fabulous news @gregrikaart,” one fan posted. “I miss you on Y&R, it will be great to see you on TV again!!!
