Days Of Our Lives News Updates: Ron Carlivati On COVID-19 Safety, Horton Ornament Issues, & Script Changes

NBC Days of Our Lives spoilers and update reveals head writer Ron Carlivati recently did a group video chat with Stephen Nichols (Steve “Patch” Johnson) and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla Brady). The trio talked about how the annual Horton Christmas ornament hanging would have to be done differently. Carlivati also discussed script changes, COVID-19 safety measures, and more.

Days Of Our Lives Script Changes

Like many other soap operas, DOOL will have to go through and edit many scripts. Carlivati said in the video chat, which was published on Evans’ YouTube channel, that it might be around 40 scripts. He and others have to go through each episode, page-by-page, scene-by-scene, and change some things. He doesn’t anticipate huge storyline alterations, but small ones. Examples include removing a hug, saying “give me a kiss” before cutting the camera away, or telling another character how one feels with just a look.

Horton Ornament Hanging 2020

The one scene that will be problematic is the annual Horton Christmas ornament hanging ceremony. Fans look forward to this every single year. However, one possibility Carliavit suggested is that one person hangs their ornament, then the camera zooms in on another person instead of having all the characters in the room at once.

COVID-19 Safety On The Days Of Our Lives Set

Days of Our Lives will have to learn what the safety measures are before they get back to work. Carlivati admitted that they are learning what all those protective protocols are and will adjust to the rules. But they are in a learning phase right now, which explains why they aren’t in a rush to get back to work. Scripts have to be revised and they have to get the approval to get back to work. Cast and crew all have to be tested and they have to create a plan and stick to it.

When Will Days Of our Lives Filming Begin?

The NBC soap is planning to resume production on September 1. Considering that there are only enough new episodes to last until October, we might be without the Salem shenanigans for a short time. However, it all depends on how quickly they can get filmed episodes ready for broadcast.

DOOL Casting – What Else To Expect

As for what else to expect, a lot of huge cast members are leaving in fall 2020. One has already filmed her final scenes, Kristian Alfonso (Hope Brady). She clarified that she will not be returning to the set when the rest of the cast gets back to work on September 1.

It seems that everything is a learning curve right now. Once they get a handle on how they are going to work around the safety guidelines, they will release more information. In the meantime, there are enough episodes to stay on the air until October 2020.
