Hogestyn is known for his character John Black in “Days of Our Lives.” He’s been playing the spy turned private detective for 33 years, and anyone would agree that it’s time for him to win an award as recognition of his impeccable performance.
But a win may be on the horizon, since he has received a pre-nomination for best actor. He might not have to wait to be nominated 19 times like Susan Lucci of All My Children before winning. Sad to say, but there were great actors who had to wait a lot longer before they were nominated.
Days Of Our Lives – Other Soap Legends Waited Decades For A Nomination
Peter Reckell, a former Days actor, earned his nomination for his portrayal of Bo Brady after 26 years. He was not alone. Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan), who was one of the original cast members of the Bold and The Beautiful when the soap made its debut in 1987, finally received a nomination after 26 years.
Doug Davidson, who’s played the part of Paul Williams on the Young and The Restless since 1978, received his first nomination after 25 years. But he didn’t win in 2003. He had to wait another 10 years before he finally took home his first Daytime Emmy award.
Based on the predictions of several Gold Derby users, Hogestyn’s odds of winning for best actor are 72-1. However, a couple of top users predicted that he has a good chance of making the cut. Although none of them has predicted a sure win for Hogestyn, they know better than setting something in stone when it comes to soap operas.
