Days of Our Lives spoilers tease that the DiMera family is quite fractured right now. Ever since the death of patriarch Stefano DiMera (the late Joseph Mascolo), each of his children has vied for a position of power within the family with mixed results. Most of their conflict has been related to DiMera Enterprises and who is best qualified to run the company. Deep down, Stefano’s children love each other but the DiMera children were taught from childhood to stop at nothing to achieve their goals, even if it meant betraying one of their own. Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) had been believed dead for years, but he had actually been hidden away by Kristen DiMera (Stacey Haiduk).

The love of Tony’s life, Anna DiMera (LeAnn Hunley) had never really accepted Tony’s death fully. She had kept Tony’s ashes the whole time, even talking to the e urn she kept them in as if he was right there with her. But those ashes weren’t really Tony, and deep-down Anna knew it.

Her faith and love were finally rewarded when she was finally reunited with Tony. They remarried and have spent the last several years traveling the world, finally able to enjoy their lives together. Tony had considered involving himself in the DiMera family business but Anna had waited long enough for her happy ending. And although they return to Salem often, Anna and Tony have mostly not involved themselves in DiMera plots.

Anna had seen the DiMera’s do their worst to each other and she herself had been kept apart from her beloved Tony for decades because of Stefano’s hold on his eldest son. But Anna’s love and devotion proved more powerful in the end. Selfishly, she kept Tony from getting too involved. Tony had finally put Anna first but each time they returned home, the rest of the family was still fighting each other. It was becoming increasingly clear that the DiMera family was in need of strong leadership, and Tony and Anna were the best chance for the DiMeras to unite.

Tony is in a unique situation. He has spent years torn between his family and his love for Anna. But he was finally able to choose Anna and he had never been happier. But every time he and Anna come home it becomes more obvious that the rest of the family would never come together without his presence to guide them. Anna will eventually see that Tony would never suggest they move back permanently, but Anna had enjoyed having Tony all to herself for many years now and nothing would separate them for long ever again. It was time to make the DiMera’s a true family and they needed to be there full-time. They had been through just about everything over the years to come out on the other side. The DiMera family will never be completely free of their darkness, but they can finally stop hurting each other.
