Nicole has been trying to move on without Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan). Nicole ended up losing Eric when she had a one-night stand with Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer). Eric could not forgive Nicole and went back to do charity work in Africa. Eric returned to Salem to help his mother Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) who had been possessed by the devil.
Days of Our Lives spoilers say Eric had decided to go back to being a priest and was able to save Marlena. Nicole was grateful to get to see Eric before he left Salem. Nicole had thought that she could move on with EJ DiMera (Daniel Feuerriegel). EJ thought that his relationship with his wife Sami Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) was over because she was unfaithful to him with her past love Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo). Nicole had been surprised that she and EJ had been able to reconnect even with their complex past.

Brady may be concerned that EJ has enough problems of his own which could cause trouble for Nicole. Sami had been kidnapped by Lucas and EJ has been framed for her kidnapping. Brady has been concerned that Nicole may get into trouble with Ava.
