Feuerriegel said that death changed EJ and he desperately wants to reconnect with everyone and everything. This includes his wife, Sami DiMera (Alison Sweeney).

DOOL spoilers reveal that EJ comes back to town after hearing that someone is trying to move in on his wife. Even though EJ glared at Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) while saying these words, it is confirmed that he actually doesn’t suspect “Lumi.” He trusts Sami completely and is only worried about fixing his marriage. He admits to failing Sami as a husband and wants another chance to make things right.

In the new issue of Soap Opera Digest, Feuerriegel said that when one is at death’s door, it can really change them. When it comes to EJ, he is definitely a changed man.

“Being near death’s door can really change people. He’s definitely changed.”

Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that in the beginning, EJ’s whole focus is fixing his relationship with Sami. In his mind, he is 100 percent committed to being the best husband possible and he knows that he has failed her. DOOL Spoilers – Family Complications

EJ decides that he and Sami must return to Rome together. While Sami packs, EJ goes to reconnect with his family. That is when Tony tells him how bad things are with DiMera Enterprises. He claims that Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash) is in charge and the company is going in the wrong direction. He adds that Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus) now owns the mansion, which complicates things.

“He discovers that Jake is now in charge of DiMera and also Gabi has the house. Tony tells him that the company is going in the wrong direction, so EJ plans to do what he can to get the company back to the family and push it in the right direction.”

Head writer Ron Carlivati added that family is the most important thing to EJ. He also considers the mansion to be part of the family history. So, EJ plans on taking it all back. He has been gone so long from everything that he decides to put down his roots in Salem with Sami and wants to reconnect with everyone, as well as everything. However, EJ better is ready for a fight. Jake and Gabi aren’t going to give up that easily.
