Any professional actor must be willing to take criticisms about her performance. Camilla Banus, who plays Gabi Hernandez, is no exception. However, she stands her ground when Twitter haters attacked her personally.

Banus admitted that she’s very vocal on social media and said she had to protect herself. “That’s just the way that I deal with it,” the actress added.

“So I cry. I also did a live [feed], generally talking about and explaining what [the negative comments] meant to me. Gabi’s name can be attached to them, but I don’t think that my name needs to be attached to them…” Banus added.

“And those comments that were completely negative started making people talking even worse to me,” she continued.

The comments were too much and those who were posting them went too far. Banus explained that she’s already aware of the negative content about her character’s storyline. She knows what kind of personality her character is since she’s dealing with it on a regular basis. Even though she knows her alter ego is doing horrible things, she can’t do anything because it’s her job to portray it.

“I already have to deal with eight hours or 12 hours of that [on set]. I don’t want to come home and read negative things, too,” she explained.

Before, Banus considered Twitter as a platform that can help her unwind and learn new things. But it has become a negative place for her, which she doesn’t want.

The actress knows she can’t make other people do anything. She knows they can write, say, or post whatever she wants. But she also has her own way of dealing with all the flack she’s getting.

“You get trolls, every day. And I spotlight trolls. I love doing that,” she said.

“Sometimes I’ll take people that are obsessively mean and take screenshots of how mean they’re being and put it on my page,” she continued.

She said that whenever someone becomes mean to her, she’ll make sure that the spotlight is on them and whatever it is they’re doing. She protects herself by “advertising” her haters.

“I spotlight people who aren’t acting right, and they get even madder. They get more humiliated and they should be because that is terrible,” she said.
