What’s interesting about this is Gwen has lied since arriving in Salem. The one time she’s telling the truth and nobody believes her. Despite Laura’s death not being shown to viewers yet, the panic-stricken look on Gwen’s face suggests that she really didn’t murder Laura. It most likely was a tragic accident.

When Abigail can’t get Gwen to confess to murdering Laura, the two might end up talking about their different lives. While Gwen thinks Abigail had a fairytale childhood, the truth is that Jack wasn’t around most of the time. Gwen needs to stop yapping about her bad childhood and learn that Abigail had it tough, too.

But as fans know, Jack was a great husband and father when he was actually there. For many years, he was either missing or presumed dead. When he came back with Eve Donovan (Kassie De Paiva) and had amnesia, he has been “dead” for eight years! When Gwen learns this information, she could realize that they were both abandoned… just in different ways.

With soaps, storylines typically have the end goal of resolution, forgiveness, or some kind of reconciliation. Jennifer Horton (Cady McClain) leaves for Boston, so Jack will be losing the woman he loves. JJ Deveraux (Casey Moss) left the country. He has a troubled daughter who might have killed his mother-in-law and one-time bedroom partner. His other daughter has a severe mental illness and is going through her own personal hell. The half-sisters are at each other’s throats and could literally kill one another.

Yes, the Deveraux family is being torn apart again, but only so writers can put them back together again. It seems that before Gwen can be redeemed, she needs a reality check. Maybe realizing that she and Abigail are not that different could end the war and begin a journey of healing. And maybe one day in the future, the half-sisters could actually consider each other “family.”
