Perhaps Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) has learned from his mistakes with Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) and doesn’t want Gabi marrying one man while loving another.

Rafe has just gone through a horrible experience with Nicole rushing into marriage with him when she still was pining for Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan). She insisted she was over Eric when she accepted his marriage proposal but wanted to rush into marriage when she found out Eric, was staying in town. Rafe, on the rebound from Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) failed to see the red flags, and went through with the marriage.

But Nicole couldn’t stay away from Eric and from butting into his business; she came between him and Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu). Then she recreated a scenario at work that mirrored when she and Eric fell in love, and it was too late-she wanted a divorce.

Gabi’s wedding to Li Shin (Remington Hoffman) is coming up quickly, and although Rafe isn’t that concerned for her fiancé, he is concerned for his sister. He knows that the reappearance of Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash) from the dead was unexpected, and it presents a dilemma for Gabi, who described Stefan as the love of her life.

He realizes that his situation with Nicole and Gabi’s situation with Li are similar, only she’s in the same situation as Nicole, marrying one man but maybe still loving the other. He wants to make sure that Gabi has gotten over Stefan before she marries Li, otherwise the marriage may not last, and Li may suspect he doesn’t have her whole heart.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Who Do You Love, Who Would You Want?

Rafe has a sit down with Gabi and asks her some hard questions about her feelings for Li; he wants her to ask herself who she loves but who she’d want. If the situation were different and Stefan wanted her back, would she want to stay with Li or would she want to reconcile with Stefan? It’s a little bit of a different situation than Nicole was in between him and Eric but only to the point Eric wasn’t back from the dead.

When someone is widowed, holding feelings for that lost love is acceptable even when moving on with someone new. It’s a part of the grieving process-but if a former relationship is dead and you’re torn between the former and current partners, it’s a different situation.
