During that time she had no idea who she was since her very essence and being had been taken over by another woman, one who absolutely detested Hope.

It was an ugly situation and now it looks to get a lot uglier and nastier now that Hope has survived and is back (or is she?).

Poor Hope had a chip implanted into her that effectively allowed her old nemesis Princess Gina to take over her mind and body.

While Hope was Gina the latter did all sorts of nasty things to people, all while pretending to be sweet Fancy Face. This went on for over a year and the fact that her loved ones were not aware is just unbelievable. For a long time, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) was completely clueless about the woman who used to be his wife.

Gina pushed Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) over a balcony which resulted in her having to be hospitalized for a year while in a coma.

She also played mind games with John Black (Drake Hogestyn), coming on to him while Marlena (Deidre Hall) was out of the picture.

Hope did not remember any of these misdeeds and acted distraught and upset at how she had acted when she wasn’t herself leading her loved ones to think Hope will have a breakdown.

Hope’s friends were relieved to have their loved one back, but one person still had his doubts. Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) listened and watched while Hope struggled to remember what happened to her; the newsman was using his instincts to ferret out the truth.

In the end, he floated the suggestion that it could really be Gina staring back at them, not Hope. The people gathered were aghast—of course, it is Hope!

But what are the chances that they are seeing what they want to see and believing what they want to believe?

Hope is beloved and having her gone for so long was heart-wrenching for everyone, especially her kids. Just who is laying in that hospital bed—she looks exactly like Hope but underneath is it possible that Gina still lurks?
