NBC Days of Our Lives fans remember the old Xander Cook Kiriakis. The cold-hearted villain did unspeakable things to people without remorse. However, he went through a transformation. While Xander is still a bad boy, we have seen him grow into what resembles a human being. Actor Paul Telfer explained his character’s evolution and talked about Xander’s version of love.

When it was first hinted that Xander and Sarah could become a couple, fans were in disbelief. However, it ended up happening, and over time, DOOL fans learned just how much of an effect Sarah has on Salem’s bad boy. She was somehow able to transform Xander into a human being with a heart. Someone who can give and receive love. Even though Xander always messes things up somehow, we are now able to see that his intentions aren’t evil — at least, not with Sarah.

DOOL Spoilers – Targets And Goals

Speaking with Dishin’ Days, Telfer explained that Sarah has always been special to Xander right from the start. However, the reasons were not the same as they are now.

“His version of love could just be that here’s a target, a woman that represents to me everything that I need to become this thing that I’m trying to make everybody see me as. So, even if it was that at first and then it transitioned into true love after he is forced to sacrifice and make concessions and to change for somebody else so as it went along, I started to feel, like whether it was intentional or not, it does start to actually make sense.”

Days Of Our Lives – Xander Cook Kiriakis’ Version Of Love

Days of Our Lives fans have learned that Xander doesn’t love like a “normal” person. He has his own way of showing his love for Sarah. Of course, his attempts to love her and prevent the doctor from feeling any pain always end up backfiring. It might not be a “normal” way to love a woman, but it’s the only way he knows how.

What is changing how Xander operates is that he holds Sarah up on a pedestal. He has this specific idea of who Sarah is in his mind. Telfer admitted that his mental image of Sarah might not be the “real” Sarah, but it pushes him to be held accountable.

“When she shuns him, it’s the only punishment that’s really going to work on him.”

DOOL – Feelings Are Genuine

Telfer did make one thing clear and that is the love Xander feels for Sarah is genuine. He is obsessive, impulsive, and tends to react in extreme ways. However, his love for Sarah is real and she is probably the only reason that we are seeing positive changes in Xander.
