Eventually, the two became a couple and Xander evolved into a partially reformed villain. “Xarah” was all set to get married until Sarah made the mistake of catching Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) without her Susan Banks (also played by Haiduk) mask. Kristen took drastic action, which led to Sarah vanishing from Salem and Xander going through an intense heartbreak.

DOOL Spoilers – Sarah Horton’s Delusion

Sarah has been rescued from Kristen’s deserted island, where she was held captive for nearly a year. However, Sarah isn’t the same woman… literally. Sarah believes she is Renee DuMonde and is obsessed with making Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) her man. Despite Sarah being admitted to the hospital, doctors won’t be able to reverse the dangerous delusion. That doesn’t mean Xander is going to give up, though.

Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that Xander proposed to Gwen. So, Gwen thought she was getting her happy ending. However, Gwen knows that if Sarah ever regains her memories, Xander will go back to his ex. Deep inside, Gwen knows that Xander’s heart really belongs to Sarah no matter what he says.

However, don’t expect Xander’s love triangle to be resolved anytime soon. It might be several months before Xander makes his final choice.

Speaking to Soaps.com, Telfer talked about Xander and Sarah’s future. The actor explained that the story is written to intentionally torture fans. However, Telfer also said that there is a point and fans can expect a satisfying payoff.

“[The writers] kind of purposefully torture people… Getting upset means you care about these people. And all that ‘torture’ makes the payoff so much more satisfying in the end. So, buckle in and enjoy the ride, because we know that if nothing else, when Xander’s involved, it’s going to be a blast!”
