Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: Thaao Penghlis Talks “Behind The Scenes” Drama On Soap

Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers indicate fans haven’t seen Tony DiMera in a long while, and actor Thaao Penghlis recently announced after four decades, he’s officially departed with the soap. He was last on the daytime drama in June 2023.

He recently talked with Soaps.com about some backstage drama with James E. Reilly, former DOOL head writer.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Thaao Penghlis’s Rocky Relationship With James E. Reilly

During the interview, Penghlis notes that he and Reilly weren’t always on the same page. Thaao notes, “Well, James Reilly was not a very nice guy. He liked me a lot for the first year. And then there was a bit of a sabotage that went on [behind the scenes] because I was popular on the show. There was another actor and an actress who wanted to see me go.”

Thaao didn’t reveal the names of the actor and actress but did try to defend his name when gossip got out of control. There was an instance where a rumor went around that he did not like Reilly’s writing.

He states (about the gossip), “I said his dialogue and his stories were crap. That’s not what I do. So, when I got called up to the producers, they said, ‘Oh my God, what did you say? James Reilly called up screaming that he’s going to kill you off and that you said that his scripts were crap.’”

Penghlis reveals that he “never said a word” about the head writer’s scripts; however, that’s when he found out he was going to be killed off within storylines.

At that point, Thaao’s mom and dad had passed within four days of each other, so Reilly waited some months before completely writing his character off the canvas.

As fans know, that wasn’t the last time Days viewers saw Thaao, and as time wore on, he returned to the show multiple times.

He goes on to say, “When he was fired, I was called back.” But, sadly, every time Reilly was hired back to the show, he’d ax Thaao’s character. Penghlis notes, “He killed me three times. Every time he came back, he’d kill me.”

He’s releasing a new cookbook that details meals he’s shared with fellow Hollywood friends over the years, called, “Seducing Celebrities, One Meal At A Time”. He also has a podcast titled “Thaao Penghlis’s The Lost Treasures”. During each show, he explores Greek history.
