It wasn’t that long ago that Vaughan announced that he was leaving the NBC soap opera, in which he played Eric Brady for eight years. DOOL spoilers reveal that the actor gave several reasons for his decision. One was that the soap was currently in renewal talks and it was taking so long that nobody knew if they would still have a job. So, many actors took action to make sure they still had income rolling in, which meant looking for other opportunities.

However, Vaughan also told Soap Opera Digest that he felt like a “glorified extra.” His opinions about the storyline direction and his character were not taken seriously.

As we saw earlier this week, Eric decided that he was meant to go back to Africa and help the villagers. In a time when things are so uncertain for the villages, the people need someone they trust. They need comfort, encouragement, and hope and all of these things are what Eric specializes in. Even though he is still happily married to Nicole, the couple will be separated while Eric is in Africa. But for how long? Eric can’t stay in Africa forever, which means the character will come back to Salem one day.
