Alison Sweeney, who’s best known for her role as Sami on “Days of Our Lives” is on a roll. The American actress, host, and author has landed a new gig with Hallmark. She’ll be part of its Movies & Mysteries project called “Chronicle Mysteries: The Deep End!“
Sweeney will reprise her role as Alex McPherson, who’s the host of a true-crime podcast titled “Recovered.” In her latest case, she’ll try to prove that the widow who’s been accused of murdering his husband is innocent. And she’ll get some help from Drew Godfrey (Benjamin Ayres).
“The Deep End” Teaser
In an interview with Soap Hub, Sweeney said, “We’re really excited about The Deep End.” She also teased that there’s more to it than just cracking the case. Viewers will get the chance to get to know Alex on a deeper level. Plus, they’ll witness the development of her relationship with Drew.
“We’re taking Chronicle Mysteries a little deeper this year. You’re getting a little more insight into Alex’s character and the relationship that she and Drew are developing so, it’s really fun,” she said.
Melissa Salmons penned “The Deep End.” She a veteran writer who’s been part of the writing team of popular soaps like “Days of Our Lives,” “The Young and the Restless,” and “Guiding Light,” to name a few.
Busy Producing and Acting, But Wants To Go Back To Directing
Sweeney admitted that she can’t wait to direct daytime once again. But for now, she has to focus on producing and starring in her new projects.
“I’m busy producing,” she said. “In this format, it works for me to produce and star [in projects], I’ll be editing and in post-production, on one movie while we’re shooting the next one. You find yourself wearing a lot of hats!” she continued.
For now, there’s no offer to return to Salem. Viewers may recall that she reprised her role earlier this year for a tribute to her late grandmother onscreen Caroline Brady (Peggy McCay). She recalled the amazing scenes and memories they shared together. She added that McCay “was a really important person” in her life.
“She was a grandmother to me. Christie [Clark, ex-Carrie] and I were so affected by the woman Peggy was and the strength she exuded.,” she shared. “She was a woman and a person in this industry for so many decades. We were brought up looking up to her. Watching her makes a person who they become,” she added.
