Days Of Our Lives Star Mark Hapka Explains Why He Took Johnny Depp Role In Film Dramatizing Amber Heard Court Case!

Days Of Our Lives Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s trial fascinated fans of both the actor and the actress. But when news broke that Tubi planned to turn the court case into a movie, some disagreed with the concept. And now the actors portraying Johnny and Amber feel ready to admit their hesitations about the film.

Find out what Bones star Megan Davis and Days of Our Lives actor Mark Hapka (Nathan Horton) revealed about playing, respectively, Heard and Depp. And see if they feel the resulting movie achieved what they hoped. Get all the details below.

Days Of Our Lives Star – Mark Hapka Explains His Johnny Depp Role

When Mark Hapka first considered portraying Johnny Depp in a film version of Depp’s trial against Amber Heard, the Days Of Our Lives star hesitated. And he admitted that he recognized the risks. For instance, the media covered the trial non-stop. And social media picked up where the TV cameras left off, with everyone seeming to want to get their views heard.

As a result, Mark told EW that he empathizes with viewers who feel hesitant about watching the movie. “You have every right to be skeptical,” admitted the Days Of Our Lives star. And he recalled asking in-depth questions before he agreed to portray Johnny in Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial. The film has begun streaming on Tubi.

And Hapka’s co-star, Megan Davis, agrees. Before agreeing to portray Amber Heard, Megan felt “a little skeptical too when I first heard about it. It’s a topic you want to treat with such respect,” she pointed out. “And the problem I think with the trial is that people see themselves in both.”

Depp/Heard – Trial Movie Offer Unbiased Look At Johnny And Amber

However, Mark and Megan spent time talking with the filmmakers before agreeing to take on the roles. And that helped the Days Of Our Lives star make the decision to portray Johnny. But when the producers offered him the role, he established one ground rule.

“When I was offered the role, it wasn’t necessarily a hell yes,” Hapka admitted. “It’s a risky role.” As a result, he asked questions and talked with the director and producer. And the Days Of Our Lives star “wanted to find out what kind of movie they were going to make,” he explained.

“Because if there was going to be any type of bias or sway to either side, then I really wasn’t interested,” added Mark. But both the Days Of Our Lives star and Davis felt reassured. And the actress noted, “Everyone was very much a believer in portraying [Heard] as a real human being and her truth as fairly as his truth.”

Days Of Our Lives – Star Finds Silver Lining In Portraying Johnny Depp

As a result, Hapka sat down with Davis to discuss the potential for co-starring in the movie. “I knew this movie was getting made with or without me,” he pointed out. “Megan and I sat down and spoke together and she goes, ‘I’m going fully protect Amber, and you’re going to fully protect Johnny.'” And they agreed on establishing a mutual goal of fairness. Because of that ground rule, they found a balance to ensure “everything stays as neutral as possible,” added the Days Of Our Lives star.

“I think it’s horrible that they’ve had to have their entire experience completely broadcast and brought into everyone’s opinion,” confessed  Hapka. “But I think if we’re to find a silver lining in all of it, it’s the moments where things are relatable for people.” And the Days Of Our Lives star expressed his hope that his portrayal of Depp brings “actual humanity to the situation.”
