Days of Our Lives’ Susan Seaforth Hayes has been playing Julie Williams on the soap since 1968, making her the longest-running cast member on the show.
Days Of Our Lives’ – Julie Williams Was Ahead Of Her Time
Although Seaforth Hayes didn’t begin playing Julie until 1968, the character has been a mainstay in Salem since day one when the troubled teen shoplifted and ended up at the Salem PD having to be rescued by her grandparents, Tom Horton and Alice Horton.
Three years later, Seaforth Hayes took over the role and took Julie from teen to young woman, with the actress remembering how edgy and different Julie was from other female soap characters back then.
“Julie was adventurous and sexually uninhibited at a time when that was something new. That was the ’60s. She was the woman out there in the world that the homemaker was probably afraid of and wishes that she was more like,”
Seaforth Hayes told Soap Opera Digest. “She has turned somewhat into her beloved grandmother, which is appropriate for her at this stage in life. She started a long way from being a Grandma Horton kind of person. She’s grown up a lot more than a lot of the characters, who don’t get to hang around as long as Julie has.”
DOOL Spoilers – Susan Seaforth Hayes Loves The Julie Williams Of Today
For more than 50 years, Seaforth Hayes has been bringing Julie to life and is sure she and her alter-ego would get along great in real life.
“I would be delighted to know her. She’s interesting. She reads the newspaper. She’s out there, and she has a nice earring collection and maybe she could lend me some,” Hayes told Digest. “She likes to travel, and she’s still sexually liberated. She’s just liberated for one guy. They’re still really enjoying their marriage.”
Indeed, Doug and Julie are as in love as ever, just as Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes are as in love as ever enjoying their time in Salem just as we are enjoying them. In fact, they were a large part of the Satanic possession storyline last year, with Doug being the first host the devil. And, it was great to see them centerstage.
