Days of Our Lives spoilers note that Maggie Kiriakis will be exiting from storylines, as her portrayer, actress Suzanne Rogers, has been diagnosed with cancer. More on this story, below.
Suzanne Rogers’ Days Legacy
Rogers, a Daytime Emmy winner, has been playing Maggie on DOOL since 1973. She talked to TV Insider about her cancer diagnosis, noting that she went to her doctor after feeling as if something was off.
Despite having routine colonoscopies done, the medical professional ordered another one, which produced some concerning results. An MRI, a PET scan, and a biopsy were conducted, which is when she learned she had Stage II colorectal cancer.
The actress noted in the interview that when her doctor stated she had cancer and needed treatment right away, which was, “… all a shock.”
In order to accommodate her cancer treatment, Rogers took a hiatus from DOOL. She finished her last episode in June and began a six-week round of chemo and radiation, which she attended five out of the seven days of the week.

Rogers gave credit to her DOOL onscreen daughter, Linsey Godrey (Sarah Horton Kiriakis) – who is also a cancer survivor – for the support she gave her during this trying time, as Rogers doesn’t have any family in L.A.
Rogers noted that during infusions, “Linsey sat there with me and held my hand while I was having it.” Godfrey was joined by Paul Telfer (Xander Kiriakis), and the two shared meals with Rogers during this challenging time.
The actress stated, “I knew I could count on them, so it was a lovely experience…. We really feel like a family.” The actress also acknowledged her friend, Sunie Ostermann, for her support as well.
DOOL Is A Family
Of course, Rogers also had Days friends Stephen Nichols (Steve Johnson), Greg Rikaart (Leo Stark), and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla Johnson), as well as the soap’s producers, including Executive Producer Ken Corday and Co-Executive Producer Noel Maxam, who reached out to “check in”.

Rogers informed TV Insider that she’s set to return to filming next week. As the Peacock soap shoots ten months ahead of broadcast, fans won’t see Maggie’s hiatus until 2026.

Glad you are able to continue filming on Days Of Our Lives.I have not watched or followed Days since NBC cancelled days. I watched for over 50 years. Asking God to restore your perfect health, Maggie. I have watched you since you were on General Hospital back in the late 70s. You are a beautiful person, inside and out. Blessings and healing coming your way!
